Yeah, I guess. Only problem is I don't know how well rounded a few of those are. Gallagher and Booth especially. Is there much evidence they have many strings to their bow, that they can do things numerous ways and still have success? They've done well though, no doubt.
^^^ I agree with this. The Dark One hasn't really moulded a complete fighter, whilst Gallagher has had a few bad results lately, albeit against high class opposition. The main charge against him is that his fighters all tend to fight in the ''Manchester'' style, like Billy Graham fighters but without head movement. I'd say.... Tibbs Coldwell (who is really underrated IMO) McCracken Nelson Booth Not in any order. I do think that in time Arnie will get on the list, hopefully he'll get some young lads that he can mould into his own. Bellew wasn't really suited to him (as his last performance showed) and Gavin has obviously had problems away from boxing.
I like what I've heard from Coldwell in the corner. Not much else to go on other than that at the moment. McCracken seems to be able to make the adjustments mid-fight to help Froch, or at least tell him the correct advice regardless of whether Froch follows it. Havn't seen Booth train anyone in the non 'mini-Roy Jones Jr' style, nor Gallagher in anything other than what you call the 'Manchester' style.
That probably wasn't the best way to term it but it can't be denied Gallagher seems to train a lot of guys who put up the ear muffs and walk forward without cutting the ring off very well and rely on a basic pressure style.
Manchester style: Normally white fighters, who come forward with high guard and try out strength there foe and punch them to standstill.
whos the last UK trainer to take a kid who walks into his gym at 9 / 10 and teaches him how to box from scratch and make him a world champion? thats something that has to be massively respected
That would make an interesting thread. Why does Manchester p4p produce the most 'macho' fighters in the UK? Is it the environment? The trainers? The fact they look up to past Manchester fighters who often have this style?
