ingles have had the most sucsess out of any british trainers ever surely and most of them boxed their from the beginning of their amateur careers
I know them so know I would be able to work for them. Arnie is a good trainer but its horses for courses and he wouldn't fit the kind of style I think I'd have if I was able to box.
I'm surprised that Tony Borg hasn't been given a mention in this thread considering his recent success in both the pro's and amateur's.
Glad someone completely unrelated to our gym mentioned Kev , I steer clear of these debates as there is really no such thing as a best trainer par se- you either competent or you not, and then after that your either suitable to the fighter or not... Achievements, winning runs etc can be measured but the opposition can be of different standard, the raw material the trainers provided with can be different too. Truth is every trainer doesn't know everything - as a trainer you have to locate as much relevant information as possible and try and use it as suitably as possible. Look at Enzo calzaghe- do you think he knows the in and outs of sacroplasmic hypertrophy? But his achievements cannot be denied - buddy Mcgirt gets tons of stick but look what he did with gatti. The reason why I choose to drive for nearly two hours a day to train with Kev is because I totally trust him, everything is meticulously planned an taken care of- sparring is suitable - the advice given is realistic and achievable and it's a great crack in the gym. For me I couldn't choose a better trainer. But someone else might not like that for whatever reason. I think finding the best trainer is impossible, you can find the most successful, the most consistent, the most in form but the best? Far too subjective- even the worst, most clueless trainers in the uk can get there fighters to win- provided the fighter is talented enough.
It's simple, trainers records in tough fights don't lie IMO, I've always personally admired Tibbs.. There are some fantastic coaches in this country though.. McCracken,Coldwell,Gallagher,Shannon they all know there stuff, Bobby Rimmer is a good coach and I've seen plenty, he loves his fighters does Bobby, Oliver Harrison is a good coach and has really proven himself! Like I say we have plenty of good coaches in the UK.. Billy Nelson has done a truly special job turning around Ricky's career imho
I think if you'd asked this question ten years ago, a lot of people would have mentioned the Ingles. But because their gym is largely a journeyman gym these days it's easy to overlook them. Plus, more and more fighters are staying amateur longer and then going to the ''in vogue'' trainer at the time where they can be treated like a God. I'm sure DeGale or Khan would love to walk into a run down Church Hall and be told they aren't any better than a 4x2's journeyman with 100 losses, or having schoolkids rocking up wanting autographs.
Very good call:good Who has Graham got at moment, the Walsh brothers, Sam Sexton, Herbie Hide (what happened to him), who else?
