Puerto Rico has always been producing great boxers through the years, here's my top 5 Puerto Rican Boxers.

    1. Wilfredo Gomez
    2. Wilfredo Benitez
    3. Felix Trinidad
    4. Miguel Cotto
    5. Carlos Ortiz

There were others who could have been on the list such as Hector Camacho, John Ruiz, Ivan Calderon, etc....

Miguel isn't a Puerto Rican great. He's a good one in a long line of them.

i don't have a top 5, but De Jesus and Jose Basora should be seriously considered

no Miguel Cotto is a great...world champion...defeated another great fighter in Shane Mosley...beaten a lot of solid names...including possibly Margarito had he not loaded his gloves.

We have different standards i guess. Cotto is real good to me, not one of boxing's true greats at all.

I hold cotto in very high esteem, he has many good wins and the win over mosley is the icing on the cake. Id say hes very close to greatness, he just needs a comeback and to impress at 154. You have to appreciate a fighter like him though, he keeps on coming.

Carlos Ortiz by a fair distance above the rest. After him you get to Gomez, Benitez, Trinidad, De Jesus, Montanez, Basora, Torres, Escobar, etc. Cocoa Kid was Cuban.

I'm still re-reading the first post over and over in the hopes that I may have missed something. Is Miguel Cotto actually ranked above Carlos Ortiz? I ask for just one bit of sound reasoning to justify it under any criteria and I'll leave it be.
