Hey In the wake of Cotto fighting Trout in a bout he could have easily said no and wait for the Alvarez cashout. What named fighters now or in the past have been known to give other fighters a chance/opportunity to prove themselves? (whether they are coming up in ranks or seem to be avoided). The one guy that comes to mind for me is Shane Mosley. Shane gave both Vernon Forrest & Winky Wright opportunities when most guys would have said hell no.

What Cotto is doing seems pretty refreshing, in a sport where its nothing but politics and the ole "high risk low reward" saying I also respect Pacquiao for giving Bradley & Clottey a go at it.

    Thoughts?

What Cotto is doing is what all boxers are supposed to do but sadly it doesn't and will never work that way. Boxers struggle to make a name for themselves then have to carefully pick right opponents to secure enough money. Don't forget that boxing is their life/job and their careers(or lives) could end overnight.

Leonard giving Pryor a chance at a fight. Pryor said no and wanted more money, but good old Legendary Nights try to rewrite history with their revisionism, resulting in boxing forums being polluted with this myth.

Mares took a huge risk he didn't need to take by fighting Moreno a couple weeks ago

You know Mares is serious when he says he wants to fight the best when you look at his resume of the last 3 years

I'm skeptical about Cotto's reasons to fight Trout, though

Remember Trout was one of the candidates to fight Canelo in sept. 15 but negotiations were cancelled because Sulaiman pulled his ¨WBC doesnt allow unifications bs¨

Canelo would have been forced to vacate his belt so the match was canned

If Cotto avoids the Canelo fight AGAIN for next Cinco de Mayo, we'll have reasons to think Cotto is ducking him and he got Trout's belt so he could have a feasible excuse to keep ducking Canelo while waiting for a big money rematch against Mayweather or Pac

Muhammad Ali gave Ken Norton a chance even though people didn't really think he had a chance to win
