It has been reported that Inoue suffered an eye socket (orbital) fracture during the Donaire fight. Said he doesn’t need surgery for now and it may not be that serious but, could this be a career killer? Other fighters aren’t always the same from what I’ve seen so it may affect his future fights. Thoughts? (sorry, only Japanese source for now: https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/news/201911090000956.html)
Yeah, and there’s a picture of him getting stitched up and all but it was much more serious than we thought.
He was touching that eye a lot during the whole fight, definitely bothered him a lot. Reminded me of Kell Brook actually.
In a recent interview he gave, he said he was seeing double and that the only way he was able to see ok was if he blocked or touched his eye with his glove. Amazing he was able to finish strong!
I was yelling (well not quite yelling) at my TV during the first 2 rounds for him not to stand still and trade with Nonito because I thought he was going to get clipped with a big left hook mid exchange and sure enough he did in round 2 and I remember thinking to myself when it landed that he was very lucky it caught him on the eye and not his chin. Little did I know at the time that it had fractured his orbital socket.
I wondered if that was the case actually. His eye was wide open and looked odd compared to his other eye. Reminded me a little of Bob Sapp's or Margarito's. I hope this doesn't affect him too badly going forward with his career, but that eye will never get back to what it was, and he'll likely be left with a permanent lopsided stare.
He also suffered a broken nose as well Earlier today WBSS Bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue (19-0, 16) [井上 尚弥] took to social media revealed the scale of injuries he suffered against Nonito Donaire (40-6, 26). The fighter has suffered a right orbital fracture, and a broken nose, in his win. Though thankfully it appears he will be avoiding surgery and will instead be resting following one of the bouts of the year. The plan is now for Inoue to rest, recover and take time out of training. He is however remaining a visible figure in the sport and has done TV work for WOWOW since the bout and was also in attendance at today's show in the Korakuen Hall, where he was sat next to former WBC Bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka. Despite the injuries and damage he really didn't look too banged up, bar the bandage over his right eye which was cut against Donaire.
If this is the case Nointo is an amour piercer we all seen what happened to Burnett the eubank jr of the bantamweight scene Wearing down guy in his twilight of his career It makes rigondo shine and Lomo even more This is why I love boxing Each others strategies
Yeah, but this is the 4th time that left did some damage. Mathebula, broken jaw. Montiel, dented cheek bone. Burnett, Internal oblique. Inoue's doesn't seem that bad.
