Do you abstain from watching welterweights and middleweights because any top notch heavyweight would beat them?
No because welter weights and middleweights are regular size dudes who hit with power. Watching bantam weights is like watching kids fight. It’s the same reason why I don’t watch much woman's boxing.
Bro I would just sit on him. What’s he gonna do? . Also I do go to boxing gyms and I’ve spard a few bantam weights and I literally cannot feel their punches. There not bad fighters either but I’m far too big for them.
Is there a lot of media coverage and attention over in the UK surrounding this fight? You got one of their own fighters aiming to become the first undisputed bantamweight champion in the 4 belt era and he’s up against one of the best fighters in the world in Inoue. Surely the UK sports media and papers are all over this sporting event?
Nope I’ve heard no one talk about it. Most of my boxing friends including me have never heard of Butler because where I’m from no one watches BANTAMWEIGHTS! I’m not making it up either you can ask some of the British boys on here and they will tell you it’s getting no coverage.
What about little guys like Naseem Hamed and Barry McGuigan? They were big uk sporting heroes in their time weren’t they?
Hamed was but only because he had that ridiculously powerful one punch knockout power. McGuigan is much more famous for being a promoter. He wasn’t that popular while he was a fighter.
I have always been really surprised at some fan's attitudes towards the smallest divisions - I mean, what gives? They fight just like anyone else, I don't get it. Is it because there are relatively fewer KOs at the lighter weights, and certain types of fans are always hoping to see a KO even if there's less skills on display? I personally like to see skillful, competitive fights between guys with little power, more than unspectacular fights that happen to result in KO. And for anyone that thinks an average size adult dude in the USA could whip a bantam boxer in a fight - I wouldn't suggest trying it.
18 million watched McGuigan win the world title from Pedroza in 1985. Another 18m watched him defend it against Cabrera the following year. The 2nd and 3rd greatest ever viewing figures for boxing in the UK. Just under a 1/3rd of the entire UK population at the time. He was massively popular...
Damn, no bantamweights huh? I feel sorry for you bruh, you missed alot of good fights throughout the years! Tapia-Ayala 1 was FOTY!
