We have been discussing Napoles, Cervantes, & Duran mix. How about Napoles vs Aaron "The Hawk" Pryor in a a wild shoot-out at Junior Welter. Who wins?
Its gunna be hard to pick, anyone writing Pryor off against Napoles' skill needs to think more, the man was an absolute monster in terms of stamina, and if any 140 pounder can make it difficult for Napoles here it is possibly him. Pryor was quite precise also, not an easy man to pick off in the pocket. If Napoles wants to keep it at range slipping as he does in great fashion, he will have to mix it, come forward with them somewhat unorthodox powershots, and slip angle-wise, this is his best game here, as if he tries to keep it completely on 'out-boxing' terms i think Pryor can have success coming in, he would do against anyone. Napoles needs to keep him honest yet bewildered at the same time. This is so hard to pick, i havent seen enough 140 pound Napoles. Not sure, i'm just curious, do any of the more well educated posters (on these two fighters) think Pryor can outwork Napoles? Or will Napoles' game simply do better scoriing over the stretch?
With a fight like this, Mantequilla's soft skin, which ironically cut like butter, could and likely would come into play, even if he was getting the better of Pryor leading up to a potential cuts stoppage on his part. I believe the pace that Pryor sets could give Napoles the advantage in that he'd be able to time and catch Pryor flat coming in at times, but he'd also be forced to fight every minute of every round, which doesn't favor his calm, calculated style. Still, as he saw often, Napoles was more than capable of banging it out in the trenches and I think he'd fare well there at times, both taking their fair share of punishment. If he were able to deter Pryor, which I think he very well may, then it's possible he'd be able to pick up a Decision win, otherwise in the midst if all that action his eyes are likely to swell up and burst, calling a halt to the action.
Pea, is there any part of you that thinks Pryor may take a decision? Or are you only willing to give him something on cuts? For some reason im leaning to Pryor, but then i just think of Napoles and im stuck.
Napoles UD because skills pays bills, Napoles is simply greater at what he does, better boxer, better puncher, better mover. Not an easy fight but 9-6
Napoles, who banged hard enough to keep Pryor honest. I have a hard time seeing Pryor getting a dec. Napoles jab and short hooks would be scoring all night. Still if Pryor caught Jose flush,,,he was a great finisher.
Agree with this. Dead on. Sure Napoles cutting could be a problem but that can't be predicted with certainty.
You have to wonder if its 1 fight that opened those cuts or what. But he beat so many top opponents without suffering cuts losses, predicting a cuts loss every time is unrealistic
It's be a close Decision if Napoles won, but I'm pretty set on his chances to better Pryor in that scenario.
