GL: What did you whisper into Shane Mosley's ear moments before that nonsense commenced during Mayweather's post fight interview? BH: "First of all, it was the right decision and it was the best decision from a promoter standpoint and also from a fighter's standpoint first. The fighter has to be aggressive when it's time to be aggressive. He has to be disrespectful when it's time to be disrespectful. Floyd disagrees because he's on the other end. But Floyd don't remember when he bum rushed Cory Spinks' press conference after Spinks won in Vegas. He did the Kanye West at the press conference, taking away some of his shine and taking it from Cory Spinks. Ask one of Floyd's people to respond to that. Ask one of his cronies that understands. Back to Shane Mosley and what I said in his ear. A closed mouth don't get fed. This is your chance. Read my lips if they don't cut it out of the replay on HBO. I instigated him coming over and making some noise because a closed mouth don't get fed." GL: Since a closed mouth doesn't get fed, do you think he would have gotten the Mayweather fight before Juan Manuel Marquez, his stablemate? BH: "Maybe with an interview here and there, but not on the internet. People look for that on the internet and it's good for boxing and it's good for information. At the end of the day I would love for Shane to go to Vegas and become a stalker. I'm talking about showing up at Mayweather's gate. That's not desperate and this is what boxing needs. If some are scared that the UFC is kicking our ass, this is what boxing needs and this is what the African-American community in boxing needs. "Shane has seen every style in the game and they want to make subterfuge and deceit about steroids and why he didn't want to fight me a couple years ago, but that's bull****. If me and Roy Jones can talk about a fight 15 years, why can't we talk about Shane and Floyd when it's clearly the best fight out there. People know Shane is the same size and he has quick speed like Floyd does. Mayweather knows and I got to give him credit for trying to get the most money against the smaller guys. It's our job and we have to agree at Golden Boy and we do agree, at least right now, that we have to be the counter puncher of what Mayweather wants to do in the future, which is fight the smallest guy out there. "If the fans want to see Floyd fight somebody his own size, Shane Mosley has come through the ranks and moved up in weight like Floyd has, so at the end of the day, they have an opportunity to bring back the black audience and capture everybody else's imagination because it's a historic throwback Ray Leonard-Tommy Hearns kind of fight. This will bring the black community back into the forefront. When we had a deep pool of legends, black fighters were embraced taking on Mexicans, Puerto Ricans and each other." GL: If you were as close to Mayweather as you are with Shane, would you be telling Mayewather he needs to fight Shane? BH: "No. I'd be telling Floyd Mayweather if it's about lining your pockets, I'd tell him to fight the least threatening fighter, who only poses a threat thanks to the media because of their record, not their physical attributes or their style. I would tell him to fight Pacquiao ten times, get Barrera if you can get away with it, but don't fight Shane Mosley. If his intentions are to take less risk for most money, just say it. The fans of this site are not stupid and they've been educated on a lot of fronts. Floyd did what he had to do and I'm not knocking his win, but nobody likes a bully and everybody expected it. Writers have nothing to write about Mayweather until after the fight. What happened after the fight was the only unexpected television that occured that nigh
Bernard made a career out of fighting smaller guys. All of his big wins have been against significantly smaller men : Oscar, Tito, Winky & Pavlik he shouldn't be criticizing Floyd
nard thinking circles. little reverse psychology in there. sayin he'd tell floyd to fight pacquiao because he's small. i think though that should pacquiao beat cotto, who beat shane, then the fact that pac is small kinda gets thrown out the window. then for shane it becomes a case of an open mouth gets sewn shut.
He's not criticizing Floyd for fighting a smaller guy, he's criticizing Floyd for getting upset at the same exact stunt that [Floyd] himself pulled a few years ago in order to grab a fight.
Snaggatooth is wrong about the Spinks incident. What he's referring to is after Spinks fought Zab Judah in their first fight NO WHERE NEAR the interview after the fight (because there wasn't an in ring interview)did Floyd jump in. At the press conference is where Spinks and Floyd had their words.
BHop is being very honest, he told it like it is even if he were in their side. Cause seriously Floyd gets a lot of hate. He is just being a great business man, boxing is a job and in that case you work for the company who pays the most, in that case Floyd has prove to be very smart. More money less risks, I bet that a lot of people who critique Floyd would do the same thing if they were boxers.
