Fair enough. I was talking more in general terms. The point I'm tryin to get at with this thread is that skills win fights. Hopkins beat Tito because he was a more skilled fighter. Tito was a great fighter in his own right. Beating a guy like that in his prime is a good win. I don't know why people keep creating these inmaterial excuses.

This was a GREAT win, no matter what the naysayers say. Whether it was 100% his natural weight, Triniadad had filled out at 160 very well.

I can guarantee you OVER half of them (the naysayers) picked Trinidad in this fight (so using Calzaghe's argument; "oh, everyone was picking Lacy before the fight" bull**** - MORE people were picking the p4p no. 1 undefeated fighter [at that time period, Roy was gettin' hated on, with guys like Tito and Mosely taking the top spot for short spells]).

    Hindsight's a beautiful thing. :bart

Hoya was shot. Flat footed and slow and shot.

If in your opinion he performed well against Floyd then thats really down to his size, what's remaining of his ability, and Floyd's bad performance.

Hopkins' win over Tito was great and IMO the best win of his career. Floyd's win over Hoya didn't impress me.

Both wins are huge for Hopkins and Mayweather. It is undeniable.

Work on your comprehension skills. Then maybe you'll see the connection.

I don't think fighting weight or height are relevant issues because Hops always had that monk-like devotion to fitness, a 6'1'' tall guy drying himself to 158 pounds for 16 years and with a 28-inch waist body... His back muscles were chiseled like he had some sort of nutrition malfunction. I perfectly agree with Larry Merchant ( in the Hakkar fight interview) that he was taking advantage of his fitness and calling out junior-middleweights like Tito, Oscar and Vargas... He had a great game-plan against Tito but it was evident that the challenger couldn't compete at middleweight with him, not even with his big left hook punch, and you could see that Nard took a left hook when counter-hooking with a right in the 12th.
Basically I don't give love to a guy who steps on a national flag and then comes up with excuses later. Then, he low blows Allen in that second fight and fourth round twice. Hits low poor Canadian kid Vanderpool. Even Mercado was wrongly halted by Rudy Battle in Landover, MD - Hopkins was locking Mercado's left arm under his right arm for Chrissake! Now Calzaghe is talking to him and he comes up with that s*** that he would never lose to a white person - what the f*** was that? Listen, I respect Bernard as a boxer but no love, no love at all.

No Big Reg, my comprehension skills are just fine.

In one fight you had a KO artist, come forward, in your face intimidator moving up. At WW he had sick power and at 154lbs he was still a devastating puncher, but this does not mean he is the same puncher at 160 then he was at 154lbs. He just simply wasn't the fighter he was. When bigger guys can absorb your punches better then smaller fighters can and you have nothing else in your arsenal to beat them with.....it becomes easier and easier to beat you. The bigger guy won. Hopkins is actually a natural Lt Heavy also and has a sick chin and a great defender. It was actually a perfect matchup for him, and he knew it.

In the other fight you also had a smaller guy moving up. But in this case it was possibly the slickest boxer in the sport and the P4P champ. He was fighting another boxer, who had slipped in the speed, activity and reflexes and stamina departments. Also, Floyd barely won that fight. It is ALOT easier for a guy of Floyds style to beat a bigger man, then one of Titos.

Wow! Both fights had guys moving up in weight. Floyd gets more credit then BHOp for sure, but who cares.

Tell that to William Joppy. Let me ask you a question. P4P who's a better fighter; Hopkins or Tito?

Stop with this natural Lt. Heavy ****. The man walked around at around 160 back then. You mentioned exactly why Hopkins won this fight. He has a good chin, and is a great defensive fighter. It wouldn't have mattered if Tito was 6 '2 and started his career at MW, he would have still lost to Hopkins

    Exactly, skills win fights

Bull****. Oscar won 3, 4 rounds tops.

That's because Floyd is a better fighter. Just like Hopkins is a more skilled fighter than Tito.

Joe Calzaghe is representing the entire snaggletooth kingdom. Sing "God Save the Queen" and watch Joe get schooled by the "superior black athlete." :good
