Exposed? How does one get "exposed" by an ATG who beat him on points and never once had him in trouble. Even then,it wasnt a shut out. I think Naz had mentally checked out of boxing before that fight. He didnt seem to care too much that he lost even, which is odd for someone of his ego
No, I know, but I think that feeling I'm describing was still there. I don't think he dealt with the loss well.
Honeygan's stoppage win over Curry was one of the biggest upsets in boxing history..soon after that he had a string of impressive victories over top fighters of the day (Maurice Blocker, Gene Hatcher, Johhny Bumphus etc)...he faced the top opposition, didnt crumble and was exciting.
Hamed got too big headed, went into the Barrera fight looking for the one punch KO and forgot about boxing., schoolboy error. Barrera out thought him and out fought him. Hamed got out while the going was good, with the like of Morales, Marquez and Pacquiao just around the corner, could have had a few more defeats if he would have continued. In fact he ducked Marquez, or Steward advised him not to take that fight.
I agree that it wasn't a shut out but his ego was too big to allow his loss to make him a better fighter. Perhaps "exposed" was the wrong word but my point is about how he felt about it not what actually happened. I definitely think he cared, a lot.
Well against Calvo, he went back to his boxing, won via a shut out and then got booed by the British crowd, supportive as ever.
There is a great Documentary on you tube about his fight with Barerra..its a behind the scenes documentary that follows him all through the lead up to the fight and actually into the fight itself. His ego had got the better of him which you can clearly see in the documentary..even Manny Stweard his trainer at the time says he thinks Naz is off his game before the fight even starts.
Lewis had the record for sure but he was a little boring to watch...not saying he wasnt a great boxer but i cant recall ever being excited in any of his fights (except maybe Klitschko)...Tyson was well passed it when he fought Lewis.
They might be British in context of history but in modern day they are Welsh and they don't like being called british and don't like the English too much seen as we call them sheep shaggers.
Speaking of Naz,yes he was exciting. A heavy hitting, crowd pleaser ,good ring IQ , heart and a mouth-what was there not to like? I remember discussing him with a real ex-contender, an uncle a few months before Barrera. He said,Naz had a balance problem that would be his undoing. He allowed Naz' power but reiterated a fatal flaw in his technique-improper balance. Btw,at the '68 Kenya boxing trials he knocked out his junior welter opponent as a 16 year old. His dad got wind and said,'no son of mine is a thug!,'and he couldn't go,but his oppo came back with a bronze or silver. Check it out how Naz was schooled from the first round knockdown. so who are british then? because the scottish dont like the english either so therefore the only country that is british is england....which means britain doesnt exist then in your theory! Only England, Wales and Scotland.
Probably the most talented fighter ever, yes. But not the best. Lennox Lewis takes the mantle for that.
