Yes, got a gift against O'Brien, who put the record straight in the rematch. Corbett was nothing special. Johnson dealt with Fitz in a couple of rounds
Think these 4 have done more. I rate Fitz for what he has achieved, I just think other fighters have done better. Maybe we will "spar" again on another topic :thumbsup
Yeah, Naz was my favourite british boxer in his day, he could have gone down as an ATG if he stayed focused. He was brilliant for boxing, I wish he kept his Steve Robinson form all his career, he was a great fighter when he was young.
Not going to **** on anyone for not having an in-depth knowledge of pivot punches, but are you aware of the circumstances of the LaBlanche fight? It was one of the most controversial fights of the 19th century, and it is bizarre that the fight was not awarded to Dempsey on a foul. Dempsey was the premier boxer of the era, and Fitzsimmons beating him was a huge win. No British fighter's achievements can compare to becoming boxing's first triple-crown champion. Fitz had freakish knockout power for a guy his size, and but for Jeffries' cement-head he would have had a longer reign as heavyweight champ. I can only see two reasons why you wouldn't have Fitz at the top of British ATGs: 1) You don't class him as British. 2) You think the fighters of the era were far inferior to modern fighters and not comparable. Otherwise, his resume is significantly greater than Lennox, Buchanan or Kid Lewis. Only Wilde comes close, but he doesn't have the HoF calibre wins that Fitz has.
Getting back on topic, Hamed was perhaps the most talented British fighter ever, but never fulfilled that potential. He still earned his place in British boxing history, but the lack of a career defining win hurts his historical standing. It's a real shame, as the potential he showed in the Belcastro fight was incredible. In many ways, it's an indictment of the British cult of celebrity, as he was elevated to superstar status long before his in-ring achievements warranted it. All that said, his career was still a hell of a ride, and his wild slugfest with Kelley was one of the top 10 fights of the decade.
I ain't read the whole thread but 'The Prince' is in my top 5 ATG British fighters but not the best. He brought with him massive paydays to the lower weight divisions and also lot's of interest in the lower divisions, that's pretty amazing for one fighter to do.
:blood not sure if serious. Or just thick. You do know Hamed unified all 4 belts at featherweight don't you? :blood Hamed unified world champ for 5 years. Haye CW champ for 2 fights Yet your rating Haye as greater than Hamed? Yes mate you know loads about boxing :verysad
