You’re using the pre-fight interview as evidence that Naz was still in his prime.....but ignoring what actually happened in the ring against Sanchez?

I think far too many people get all intrinsic about the sport.
None of us will ever earn $$$ tens of millions of dollars yet live by a debilitating profession to earn it. But fans like us see much more importance in Hamed only fighting once more after this fight than we should.
Hamed was living a lifestyle so fast it must have been hard to focus even for 5 minutes. But at no point in his career were his abilities enough to beat any version of Barrera. He had a punchers chance at best, but in boxing terms he was lacking.
The scorecards were about right. Not a schooling by any means, just a better boxer with perfect tactics. Its so easy to call it an ass kicking when its blatantly not, just to rile Hamed fans but the reality is a convincing victory. If the wake up call was too much for him or he really was too distracted (i dnt believe anyone getting in a ring to fight another man is distracted) it really shouldnt provoke the hate brigade or Hamed fans who believe he was better than he was.
The documentary is a great watch and reminded me how good it was having him in the sport.

Let's not forget that Barrera had never ever boxed anything like he did against Naseem before... the Marco of '95-'00 would barely of stood a chance stylistically. Coming forward constantly with a jab, right and hook downstairs, nothing more - so predictable and open to Hamed's power counters.

Hamed looked vulnerable, hittable, and mediocre before finding a knockout. Kinda like how he did against the unspectacular Kevin Kelley when he was supposedly in his prime with the messiah in his corner, Brendan Ingle.

It's not a coincidence that Hamed's performances took a dive once the opponents got gradually better. Jesus. Think about it. :bart

Pretty much every expert on both sides of pond picked Hamed to beat Barrera.

Exactly, because Hamed was THAT good, but people couldnt see the decline. Similar to Tyson Douglas, yes Tyson was still knocking people out but the skills were fading comapred to Tyson 88...it took Douglas to expose this. Hameds previous fight against Augie Sanchez should have showed that he was there for the taking.

Secondly what most poeple seem to forget (or hide) is that MAB changed his whole fighting style. Before this fight he had a totally different style. NOBODY expected Barrera to fight like that.

Thirdly ive read soemwhere that some of Hameds training consisted of watching and rewatching the Junior Jones knockout and saying he was gonan do the same to Barerra. Hamed simply underestimated Barrera....

That documentary is like a real-life boxing version of This Is Spinal Tap.

Watched this 2 or 3 times over the years... good watch

Really does show just how out of touch the Prince had become at this point in his career.

Wasn't training like he should've been and surrounded by yes men. Got what he deserved really.
