Power is always popular, and he had oodles of that. Still would have been nice if he would have stuck around. He was an exciting fighter and in a brawl he has a shot against anyone. He probably would have matched up much better with Morales or Pacquiao than JMM or MAB, especially Pac. He could have gotten his shots in against a fighter like Pac, who would probably just say **** it and go to war with him. There were some great fights and great fighters in and around FW and LW, Naz could have fit in comfortably, made for some classic battles even in a losing effort. IMHO that era is the best it's ever been for the lighter weight classes. I loved it more than I did even the great WW era with Tommy and SRL etc.
MAB was beating up JJ in the first fight pretty good until he got caught. In the rematch he was too tentative, should have taken a soft fight or two in between to get his confidence. Even with that said, people shouldn't really be talking like JJ exposed Barrera or something. In his day, JJ was a baaaad dude and it's no shame to lose to him.
Agree to disagree ********, it was a **** slapping of the highest order! The Prince was royally humiliated into retirement!
You're just being trolled, man. I'd put money on it that 99% of them don't believe what they are typing, the other 1% are just delusional :conf Well, like I said, majority are just trolling...unless I am being trolled by you right now :think Barrera beats Hamed 9, probably even 10 times out of 10. His style was perfect to deal with Hamed's unortodox style, and that's not even taking in to account that Barrera was simply better, and greater. And I am genuinely a huge Hamed fan who thought he was unbeatable when I was growing up. If I remember correctly, he was very hyped, the mini Tyson, the next big star. Almost everyone picked him over Calzaghe, including the British media. That's when the British finally got behind Calzaghe after that performance...showing how shite the media is over here. It's a tough one to grasp really, he has a pretty good resume (and we can list a few other good and unique achievements of his). But he is a hypejob based solely on "fans" on a website. :think I've never actually seen you credit his resume, so that's fair enough.
Naz biggest mistake was relying too much on his power & letting his reflexes slip, the Naz who beat Steve Robinson was a great fighter, better than the one that lost to Barrera.... BUT those who say Naseem wasn`t properly prepared for MAB are talking out of their ass, he was as good as was possible for him to be at that stage of his career, if he wasn`t 100% prepared there is no way he goes 12 with a peak Barrera.
We need more boxers like this. From a different background and a funny style. I use to dislike him, but now I wish I would have seen more of his fights, why not?
That's what I'm saying. He wasn't an ATG and was never gonna be, but he knew how to bring the drama. I wouldn't have minded seeing a few more Naz fights against some true top-tier guys.
Everytime I've written about his resume,I've written the same thing. It was pretty good. That's it.I even wrote it on this thread. As far as the 99% are concerned,it's THOSE fans that are delusional.Just read the monthly Hamed threads and see for yourself, lol.Lacey may have been hyped big time, but I'd never heard of Lacey before the JC fight. It's that simple. As far as fans overhyping their heroes, just who does the overhyping but fans and the media.
