More accurate to say that Prime Naz under Ingle is every bit as good as MAB and EM, a blind man could see that. Like all great showman with charisma and talent to back up the cockyness, the haters are quick to pounce, thats always been the case with NAZ and the one sided view of the defeat to MAB.
Thread is a prime example of the idiocy inherent to the average keyboard warrior. I can't stand Naz Hamster, biggest ***** I ever saw but I can't help but admit that he was an excellent fighter. There's this stupid attitude that either you're Sugar Ray Robinson or you're **** and it's ridiculous. He lost to Barrera yes, very satisfying it was too, it wasn't anything like as one sided a fight or "a beating" like people make out though. Dull fight in fact, a miniature Klitschko fight. Naz was a very good fighter is the point. Not one of the best ever but good. If he was a mexican or puerto rican you'd all be lining up to suck his little midget ****.
Ridiculously underrated, as this thread will show. 15 title defenses. 10 championship defenses. Rightfully won WBO/WBC/IBF/WBA/IBO/Lineal featherweight titles (only the big 3 trying to freeze out the WBO prevented him having all at once) Beat 10 former/future/current titlists including: -Bungu: long time 122 lb titlist -Johnson: long time 126 titlist, and linear champ -Vazquez: 3 division titlist and will be a HOFer -Medina: 5 time feather titlist, first to KO him -Kelly: Former titlist with only one loss, one of the greatest 126lb fights ever -McColough: Former bantam titlist first million dollar feather, very exciting, all in a division he was too small for. Is he the greatest ever? No, but he had a hell of a career. But awww he wasn't very nice, so I guess that cancels out everything he did.
Btw... Steward is a one dimensional trainer. If you're not tall with abgreat jab he doesn't know what the hell to do with you and Hames was a prime example. He tried to turn a 5'3 fighter whose awkwardness was his strength into a stand up orthodox fighter- it was so stupid. It almost cost Hamed the Ingle fight, and he took a lot of unnecessary punishment before his power saved him. Ingle ended up being pretty good and won a title but the point remains. Leaving Brendan Ingle was the stupidest thing Hamed ever did and caused his decline.
Naz was overated when he was active and underated since he retired. He believed his own hype, stopped taking boxing seriously, split his training camps between two trainers, one was a yes man (suarez) the other was trying to change his style (manny), neither were the right trainers for him...the only guy who could do that job was ingle, Naz was never the same fighter after leaving him.
The most overrated fighter I've ever seen.Bar none. You fans out there don't think he's overrated? Then why is he mentioned more often than any retired fighter on the General on ESB?I just love it when his fans say he's the hardest puncher ever at 126.That's not overrated? You geniuses ever hear of Arguello,Nelson,Paquiao or Lopez? And that's just in the past 40 years.I don't think I've ever seen a fighter whose fans make more consistent excuses for-bad hands, lost desire, changed trainers,ad nauseum. And that's just after ONE ****ING LOSS.Ducked Morales and Marquez and when he finally fought an elite, was easily outboxed. But of course, his fans make excuses for that one even though I was laughing my ass off when he got his just desserts.Hamed was a fighter that would draw his opponents into an off-balance shootout by psyching them out with his tacky entrances, general boorish behavior and big mouth.MAB,a great fighter with a high ring IQ,exposed the cocksucker when he fought an intelligent, controlled fight against a fighter that couldn't psych him out and draw him into his usual bull****.Hamed was simply EXPOSED when someone that KNEW HOW TO DEAL WITH HIS **** made him look stupid.Overrated *******.He ought to count his lucky stars he didn't fight Morales,Marquez,Mayweather and Pacquiao,4 fighters that were far better than anyone he ever fought(outside of MAB of course)because he would have been humiliated in the worst way-like MAB did.But he probably knew that, which is probably why he retired when he did(at 28,haha).Lost desire indeed. How about fear of class opposition?
yeah marales or marquez would a ****ed him up bad.why retire at 28 when youve still got a good 4 years of being in your prime.imagine he did fight for another 4 years against elite compatition, we would have seen how **** he really was.
Great post. People believe he is overrated because he lost to Barrera. Which other boxer's suddenly became overrated because they lost to an ATG in Barrera? Clearly he could have done more in his career, but he also clearly fell out of love with the sport. And in an interview a couple of years ago, he stated he had hand troubles (and who wouldn't if you consistently punched with that type of power). I don't hear anyone claiming he is an ATG, and he does deserve to be inducted in to the HoF at some point...I wouldn't really say that is overrating him. I've seen lesser boxers inducted who didn't bring close to the achievements, excitement and entertainment to the sport. Which boxer in history should be able to lay claim to being the first to capture all 4 recognized belts in one division, at the same time? ...........
Exactly. As you've just touched upon, Naseem didn't exactly make it easy for us to accurately measure his legacy. Not only did he leave it unfinished, but he allowed himself - as a fighter - to diminish far too easily in his final 3/4 years. The idiot was blessed with gifts other fighters would dream of, but failed to fulfil his potential. I read a Frank Warren interview a couple of days ago, and he said Naseem talks to him at least once a week, and regularly states his regret in breaking his relationship with him.
