The reasons behind the stoppage cause me to wonder why no one is giving him the benefit of the doubt. YES - he did call for the fight to be stopped BUT- he did have a severe gash spreading across his eye brow and lid, it was caused by a headbutt and it was before the 4 round came to an end. In that case Bradley shouldn't be credited with the stoppage victory and the fight should be ruled a no decision. MAYBE - there should be cause for a rematch just to see what the result could have been if there wasn't a cut. I would like to see rather Campbell could've set a trap for Bradley using his experience and I would like to see if Bradley could've kept the tempo high and won the fight clearly. Thoughts????
He conducted himself badly imo. He needed to go to his corner and have the doctor look at the cut, and let the Doctor make that decision on Nate's behalf I'm sure if Nate would have told the doctor that he could not see the fight would have been stopped. He is overplaying the Victimized role and its making him look bad.
I agree ... but I don't know whatelse he could do ... when Robert Guerrero had that cut over his eye ... he said he couldn't see and it was immediately called a ND. I think Politics did play a role ... I don't know how the fight would've been but I do know that Campbell would've had to get the knockout to win the fight ... because it was supposed to be Bradley on display and him being in a tough fight but overcoming.
Its up to a Doctor to stop a fight, or instead of flat out quitting, at the end of the round campbell should have went to the ref and said that he was butted and he cant continue, that would have probably got him the ND, I dont know why he just quit in his corner like that, he ended it the wrong way. Im not disputing his cut or anything, just how he had the fight stopped.
yes he did quit looked defeated after round three couldnt see my ass. Cotto fights with his eye flooded with blood and no one will give him credit in his fight with clottey.
It had nothing to do with the cut. Nate was bleeding behind the eye. The fight was going to be stopped even if he would have said he's fine.
Whether the fight should get ruled a NC is a tough one to call. Campbell seemed to be mixing up two seperate issues saying it was the cut from the headbutt that caused his vision to go. Apparently there was bleeding behind his eye and possible damage to his retina but that's a different injury to the cut on his eyebrow. Only Campbell himself knows if his sight went at the same time as the headbutt. In any case, even though it was early in the fight Bradley was already well in control and it was looking like an easy night for him. I wouldn't really be interested in seeing a rematch. Campbell was looking old and won't get any younger for a rematch. I don't think he was setting traps for Bradley, I think he had just lost something.
Realistically it was a bad call on the refs part. That being said, Campbell knowing hes the underdog, and always seems to get shafted, should have probably used a little common sense and said given my past luck, I better keep fighting. It seemed his corner had his cut pretty well stopped, and it really looked to me at least, that Bradley was fighting stupid and could have punched himself out, so Campbell could have probably taken over in a few more rounds. Unfortunately for Campbell Don King is not as powerful as he once was, so getting a rematch is going to be tough.
Bradley expensed a lot of energy in the 3rd round, and he did fade a bit against Holt, as his chin is still suspect. 3rds was not enough to judge the fight, Nate starts slow.. and never had a chance to get to plan B, let alone C. I would have liked to see the fight play out without the cut, thus a ND is the right call and a rematch. Bradley needs to stop leading with his big ass head as well.
this is how I see it. nate knew the ref was being a bit of a dick by not doing anything about the head butts. then when the head butt opened up a big gash on his eye and the ref still didnt do anything, and then bradley flurry'd because nate was slightly off guard expecting the ref to jump in. this made nate campbell furious. he knew he was at an unfair disadvantage due to an illegal clash of heads and therefore asked the fight to be stopped. I get the feeling that even if the gash wasn't that bad he would have still asked for the fight to be stopped becuase he was so furious that the ref didnt do anything and at the same time you expect any cut to get worse as the fight progresses creating a bigger disadvantage. the question he asked himself was "why should I fight an unfair fight cause by an illegal move and have the referee against me when I can get a N/C and rematch later" (title at stake)
He WAS telling the ref that he couldn't see. The doctor didn't even have his flashlight on him. If he had, and he had seen that Campbell had internal bleeding behind his eye (like he confirmed after the fight was over), he certainly would have stopped it immediately. The cut was much more serious than it looked on the outside, and possibly might be career threatening. Calvin Brock fought through the same injury against Eddie Chambers, and now he's compeltely blind in one eye. Also, I've seen enough of Nate Campbell at this point to believe he wouldn't pull a ***** move unless there was a damn good reason to do so. He's had really bad cuts like that before and fought through them without complaining.
The more I think about it the more pissed off I get. Campbell straight up quit. Many fighters have fought on with worse than he had. The guy is a crybaby. All he has ever done is beat Diaz who unified 3 of the belts. Diaz did all the work. I don't ever want to waste my time watching him fight again. He is a disgrace coming out with a Gatti shirt and a Forrest hat and then quitting.
