IBF / WBO / WBA lightweight world champion Nate Campbell is now a promotional free agent. Campbells' attorneys filed a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy petition on his behalf Thursday, rejecting the promotional contract between himself and Don King Productions. Although a legal challenge of Campbells' petition from DKP would not be completely unexpected, the extremely high failure rate of such challenges would indicate that Campbell is indeed now free of Don King Productions. Campbell himself released the following statement exclusively to FightNews about these events: "First of all, this isn't personal. It's about my family, and what's best for them. I have an accountant, and an attorney, and this is the course they say I need to take. It's that simple. I'm not an attorney or an accountant. I'm a fighter. And they advised me to make this move, and to make it right now, so here we are. I have to roll with what they tell me. I ain't mad at Don, and this situation is unfortunate for everyone concerned, but it is what it is. At the end of the day, my family comes first. I have a wife, six kids, and a grandaughter to think about. I have to do what's best for them."As for his next move, and when he will be in the ring again, Campbell added the following: "I guess that all depends on what happens next. I'm ready to fight right now. There's a possible opportunity in November that I'd love to do, but we have to see what happens in the next few weeks, if that's even still available. My attorneys have advised me that I'm 100% free to move on, and I can talk, or freely negotiate as they say in legal terms, and sign a new deal with anyone I choose to. So I'm hopeful that there are some opportunities out there for me, and anyone who is interested can call Terry Trekas and set something up. I just want to fight the best fighters I can get my hands on. My goal is really that simple. That's all I've ever wanted from day one. I just want to fight." http://www.fightnews.com/fightnews_2/headlines//EkkFpypyyZYwnhLIil.html
If he's without a promoter, then hopefully he can negotiate with Golden Boy and get a fight with Marquez. Then we can have an undisputed no,1 at lightweight.
That didn't take long. He only signed with King to get the Diaz fight. I guess the writing was on the wall though when Guzman skipped out on their fight, and he didn't earn the payday he had been expecting.
Pac doesn't seem interested in the lightweights atm. He'll probably go for Hatton after Oscar. Marquez is the Ring/linear champ and Nate is the WBO/WBA/IBF champ. The winner would be undisputed no.1 in the division. Hopefully Pac will take on the winner of that fight though.
Good for Nate he is not getting any younger and he needs to make some money now DKP has a long history of ripping fighters off, we all know that.
Every statement to the media has been relevant and most have enjoyed getting it... In fact, i, and i think a lot of others... like hearing news straight from the fighters mouth like that.
Hopefully GBP picks him up you know whos prolly pissed right now....Barrera, especially after just signing a 5 year deal with king
