Nate Campbell vs Juan Manuel Marquez in November

Awesome matchup, if Marquez wins he pushes for the 3rd bout with Pacman. Nate wins it consolidates his claim has the best lightweight on the planet and more than likely he gets a payday against Pac.

Nothing really there for Marquez at 130, good fighters but not big fights. And I was wondering what Campbell was going to do with J Diaz, D Diaz, Pac, Casa and Katsidas all locked into fights. And Khan probably not ready.
I thought he might have to resort to fighting some no name mandatory.

I think Marquez can just edge it. Nate is inconsistent and after an awesome performance last time, he is due for a bad one.

We have no problem with a Marquez fight, but it would need to be in late July or August, NOT november.

What Golden Boy is trying to do here is to take the top 2 candidates for a Pac fight (Campbell and Marquez), and make them "unavailable" in the fall so they can try and slide the Casa-Diaz winner (Diaz) into the Pac fight instead. But we're not supposed to know that.......lol

So again, we have no problem fighting Marquez, but only if it's in July or August.

If Campbell shows up motivated, focused, and fully prepared (in other words, if he shows up like he did against Diaz), then I give him the edge. Would be pulling for a Marquez win though.

 

Well, there are 3 decent possibilities......

1. Golden Boy agrees to let Don distribute the Marquez ppv himself (since Golden Boy wont do anything without HBO's teet to suckle on) in July or August. Likelihood? 10%

2. The WBO actually strips Casa, appoints Khan as mandatory, Khan steps aside, and the WBO then appoints Peterson as our mandatory, and we fight Peterson in July or August. Likelihood? 25%

3. All these other clowns keep screwing around, and we end up fighting an optional in Tampa against Edner Cherry or an equivilent. Likelihood?

I am Nate's co-promoter along with King, so "we" would be Nate, Don, and me.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Nate signed with me after the 2nd Peden fight, and we did a co-promotional deal last year with King to make sure we got the Diaz fight. In this day and age, the way TV dates are allocated (and to whom), you have to partner up with either King, Golden Boy, or Top Rank if you want your fighter to regularly get on premium tv. And after careful review, we chose King.

its a pity that Casa won't get in the ring with Nate. If Nate wants to make a statement he should get in the ring with Santa Cruz and dominate him.

Alot of people think that. lol. So many as a matter of fact, that I don't even bother to correct them anymore. And that's fine, because business wise, they probably have alot more respect for Don than they do for me, which at the end of the day is better for my fighter. And that's what its really all about. I remember when we first signed the deal with King, alot of people were like "you helped move him to #1 and now you give 50% to Don?? Are you nuts??" But sometimes you need to check your ego at the door, and do whats best for your guy. Sure, I could have refused to bring someone else in, and then Nate would most likely still be fighting on ESPN for 15 grand a copy. We brought in Don, and now Nate is a 3 belt champion, the man at lightweight, and close to making enough money to take care of him and his family for good. I'm pretty sure I made the right move......lol

 

no WBA mandatory, and no IBF mandatory either. Zahir Raheem is fighting Ali Funeka for the IBF #1 spot, and ultimately the winner will be our IBF mandatory, but thats not due until next year.
