Nate Marquardt vs Chael Sonnen

Nate is one loss away from thinking of another career. Hes always been overrated and no way in hell he's beating Sonnen let alone Silva. Nate at this point shouldnt even mention Silva, its pathetic. And people ate this **** up like one beating ain't enough.

He was so lost on his back it was unbelievable, If Hendo was still in the UFC, hed tear Nate up.

 

I'm not saying that Nate could beat Silva or anything but we should really pay some attention to the stylistic problems that Chael brought to the table. Just because Sonnen beat him THE WAY that he did doesn't mean that Nate can't be a force at 185 and possibly challenge Silva. It's like saying that Maia couldn't beat Sonnen because of the way he lost to Nate. Sonnen won by wrestling and attrition. He did not fight the same that Anderson would have fought.

 

Maia jumped into a punch. That fight was way too inconclusive for me to say Nate outclasses Maia. As for Nate, before he got a beatdown from Anderson, Silva was starting to reverse positions on him. And seeing Silva now insult LHWs toying with them, the more likely I think Nate will get a savage beating. Bottom line is styles makes fights but no style of Nate can prevent a beating from Silva. Im sorry. The gap is that wide.

Now a Bone Jones, a guy like that, he has that x factor. He maybe outmatched now but later on I can see him challenge. Hes a true prospect along with Davis that makes you go "Oh ****".

Master of none jack of all trades aint going to cut it anymore against champions like BJ, GSP, Silva, Lyoto. You need someone who is a prodigy or someone special to beat them. A guy like Brock, he has the 'it" so anytime he fights, hes got a shot.

 

Wouldn't put Machida in the same breath as the rest of them.

 

Hes in there, it just happen to be that BJ, GSP, and Silva has killed the divisions, meanwhile Shogun is the only true legitimate contender out of the four divisions and he happens to be at 205.
There is no Rua at LW, WW or MW.

Hendo would **** these guys badly, even now at nearly 40. Hendo vs Maia especially would have been a grisly beat down.

No he isn't. BJ, GSP, Silva have defended their titles against top contenders multiple times. Machida barely defended it once with help of Cecil and Co.

 

Lets be honest, these guys theyve defended to have no shot of winning whatsoever and theres no real contenders in the horizon. They wont be beaten in a few more title defenses. If Machida gets past Shogun in a rematch, theres no one beating him there as well.

 

I watch boxing & MMA with my son all the time and we first saw him against Filho. He completely dominated him until the ref saw an opportunity to give the fight to Paulo by way of quick stoppage. The rematch proved who the better, more dedicated fighter was. Both my son & I picked him to beat Nate.

So Marquartd, who's only other REAL recent loss, is vs Silva in 2007, should look for another career if he lose his next fight? He would be a bum?

people should understand this. Sonnen was just a ****in bad matchup for him, like Maia is a bad matchup for Sonnen since Sonnen's bread and butter is his GnP but is prone to sub

 

I disagree. This is a physical sport, dangerous one at that. Let me ask you, where is Nate going in this division? OK lets see, they fight twice a year. They make $50k a fight, probably nets less than half.

Now follow me, Nate before he gets a title shot (and he has no chance of beating Silva) it will be another two years. He'll be two years older. So basically, theres two years of just trying to earn a title shot. I respect that but heres the problem. You got Sonnen who manhandled you like a ragdoll and maybe some new blood in the division. You still have to fight a Bisping or a Wand(which is not a sure win for Nate).

Now what is really your goal? so your goal is to make a living by fighting. Thats good and dandy but its a dangerous way to make a living and fighters as we know are way underpaid.

The sport needs new blood because frankly its getting stale esp the UFC. Get some new guys a chance. Thats why strikeforce is gaining some steam. You got guys like King Mo and Moussai that has great potential.

Meanwhile you pretty much can predict Nates career. He'll always lose to Sonnen and he'll get obliterated by Silva. But you know its a free country and he certainly can choose what he likes to do. But I really dont want to see him as a co main event on a $50 PPV. Hes been fighting a long time and hes not going to be a champion.

 

No, lets be honest. Many of them had a good argument and they were all on level off Shogun in their respective divisions.
With exception of Silva fighting couple of no chances like Leites and Cote.
I think Names like Henderson, Fitch, Alves are very serious names.

 

I dont know if you can compare Shogun to Fitch and Alves. Henderson (even at this stage) maybe but hes not in the UFC. I've already stated that hed kill Nate as well.

Shogun at one time was the very best 205er in the whole world and now hes arguably back at that level. You know what? Id like to see more of Shogun, hes exciting. Marquartd unless its prelims NO.

Also, theres a reason Machida throws good fighters like Rashad and Silva like a ragdoll and make them highlite reel materials. They are not in his level! BTW Rashad and Thiago are more the levels of Fitch and Alves.

Theres also a reason he couldnt do the same thing with Shogun because Rua at his best is at that top level aswell.
