Because they're heavyweights. Sh&t happens in that division. How were Dempsey or Johnson poleaxed? Ali was, for all intents and purposes, KO'd by a beanpole 180 pound Brit. Lewis was single shot twice.

As for Sanders, none other than Don King said it was the biggest miss of his career not getting him in the 90's, a white heavy that could actually fight.

I'm sure the biggest miss of Don King's career was missing out on the Klitschko brothers.

He had them all but signed when they visited his home in 1996 - even their sainted mother approved - and then Don King started playing the player piano in his home. The Klitsckos thought he was a piano virtuoso. They were impressed. Then they realized he wasn't actually playing it.

Feeling tricked, they decided not to sign with him because the piano incident led them to believe they couldn't trust him.

Side note: the short bald white guy walking around about the 3-minute mark is Viktor Rybalko, who was the head of an organized crime family in Ukraine and was sort of a neo-Nazi type white nationalist. (So that may have had more to do with why they eventually didn't sign than King playing a player piano.)

    Rybalko was murdered in 2005.

So the Klitschkos were buds with the head of the racist organized crime family in their country. (They were reportedly two of his 'enforcers' when they were amateurs, that's why he went with them to visit King.)

That's like Dempsey bringing Al Capone with him to sign with Tex Rickard.

The Rybalko tie also raises the question of did Rybalka or his friends wager any money on longshots like Puritty or Sanders or Brewster to "win" against Wlad?

After Rybalka was murdered, Wlad stopped losing to those types of guys, his habit of getting tired and falling down disappeared, and he went on a decade-long undefeated run when he should've been winding down his career.

Hell, Liston lost to Ali and those two fights were investigated for his organized crime ties.

If Liston was suddenly getting tired in fights and falling down against guys like Julio Mederos and Roy Harris, and then, after Carbo went to jail, Liston didn't lose for 10 years dominated the scene until Joe Frazier showed up, I think people may have wondered about those early losses.

Sanders would have knocked out Rahman but for the now defunct standing 8 count and rag dolled Lewis.

Looks like he just got caught.

He was trying to box and let Tubbs come forward.

He was stunned by a right hand, then dropped his left a bit and - bam.

Tubbs was an underachiever. Just didn’t give a crap by the time he turned pro.

i thought we were going with the lightning in a bottle TWICE theory?

Are we switching to the "Sanders AND Tubbs were ATG killers" hypothesis now?

What kind of scalps did he have on his amateur resume?

Idk, but he was a well schooled fatass. I think he got a lot of work as a sparring partner.

    You said:

This quote says that YDKSAB ... or at least these particular fights.

If getting whitewashed and knocked down 4 times is "not having problems" then I'd hate to see what you consider "problems". A head ripped from shoulders with bleeding spine, held aloft? Come on, now.

He obviously wasn't an untalented fighter. He was 262 pounds I believe against Sanders, which is really heavy. He didn't look terrible with it but the fight didn't exactly go long. He did have decently fast hands and the last two right hands he lands on Sanders are clean and on the button. Good placement.

What are some similar examples within the game of boxers simply being caught like this?

Problems would be getting stopped in one or three rounds, like Rouse did against Ruddock and Carl Williams, and getting stopped in four rounds, like Dixon did with Lewis, and gettins stopped in a couple rounds, like Zouski did by most everyone except Corrie Sanders.

These guys weren't Iron Men. Mike Dixon was knocked out by EVERYONE! They were the guys the actual contenders knocked off rather easily and didn't go the distance with.

Sanders was great against cruisers. Against journeymen heavyweights, they tended to go the route with him.

Nate Tubbs wasn't very good. He only defeated three fighters with a winning record. One of them was Corrie Sander.s
