Nathan Cleverly is headed for trouble

If he does not sack his father as his trainer, I guarantee that in his next couple of fights (provided that Frank Warren doesn't do another Joe Calzaghe and give him 20+ bums) he will get knocked out

His defence, at times, is just awful. You can not have a long productive carrear taking the kind of shots that he absorbs every fight

Yes he is exciting to watch, yes he has great skills but against a top fighter Cleverly will lose because boxing is about hitting and not being hit.

His Father, as a trainer, is a complete joke. He has not improved at all since his professional debut. I put it down to studying at Cardiff uni for his Maths degree but I as wrong.

Enzo Calzaghe heard the same thing but he was an excellent coach for Joe. He shouted at him when he lost his cool and went ape s**t in the corner when Joe was slugging with a slugger.

Cleverlys Dad just kept blowing smoke up Cleverlys ass every time he went back to the corner.

Nathan will eventually find someone who will check his chin and take him out if he doesn't fire his Father.

Cleverly was taking alot of clean shots last night, and looking very open and easy to hit. I hope he improves on his defences

Have to agree to be fair.

He has flaws that need addressing, flaws which seem to be swept under the rug in the midst of the excitement of him becoming world champion, as well as his exciting style.

He looked awful against Mohameedi. Fair enough, it was a replacement fighter and he hadn't prepared for him, but if were using preperation as an excuse, Mohameedi had a HELL of a lot less time to prepare for Cleverly.

His latest fight proved that his defence isn't up to scratch. His opponent (cbb to remember his name), was a very slow puncher, and for Cleverly to not be able to display a better ability to evade these is concerning.

I think he has the ability to be a strong champion but he does need to execute a much more tactical gameplan. It seems to me as though he is catering his style to please the fans, and could well do with sacrificing some of his "excitement" factor in order to exercise the greater technical aspects he seems to lack.

A world class competitor with power could well knock him out. Punches get through his guard far too easily.

A patient, technical example (brilliant example would be Hopkins), would frustrate Clev all night and score a UD over him (ref: see his fight against Mohameedi).

Not meaning to sound too critical of him. The guys a good fighter but seems to me that he could (and to be honest, needs to) be a better fighter.

I saw that guy at the press conference, he has a face like a rat and talks like a twat... unintentional rhyme there, but the first impression he gave me was a bad one, so if that fight does happen, I will be rooting for Cleverly!

i'm a big cleverly fan but i totally agree with your post. it infuriated me yesterday watching the interview after the fight when the interviewer started going on about cleverly getting into wars all the time and his dad was behind him smiling about it. his dad should be giving him a crack round the back of the head when cleverly does that but instead he seems to be encouraging it.

cleverly has all the tools and is a superb talent but he needs to **** his dad off immediatly and get someone like manny steward to train him, otherwise he's gonna be a wasted talent.

Agreed. Cleverly has the tendency to take these big shots often, shrugging them off. Someone with a bit of pop in there punches could KO him. I think when Cleverly steps up in class he'll meet his match. Cleverly won't fire his Dad until he get's knocked out... Watch this space....
