His main problem so far seems to be a lack of power. One suspects if he ends up in trouble in a fight he isn't going to have that bingo punch to get himself out of trouble. Throws a really good wristy right uppercut at pace. God Bless Americaatriot
Yes, but he hasn't done it either when he was in trouble or with a bingo punch has he? So it doesn't really change my point does it? He wears opponents down, he doesn't KO them. My point was if he is losing a fight going into the last round he hasn't got suzie q to help him out.
cleverly is the nearest we'll get to calzaghe for a long time, he puts together some lovely combinations and looks to be able to take a punch but as will said he lacks that bingo punch. i reckon he could really clean up the division at light heavy IF he listens to his corner and boxes smart BUT as he showed against murat his corners advice pretty much went out the window, and at world level you cant get away with that.
My sincerest apologies. I sadly assumed you were British and had the aim of starting a game of catch-up between the Cleverly and Tony Bellew fans. Tony Bellew, for your information is a prospect from Liverpool, unbeaten in 14. Most british boxing fans were looking at a match up between the two to be a natural avenue in 12 - 18 months. However, coming off the back of his worst performance yet - but he still won - people are now writing the chances of this fight happening off. Many believe this was merely a bad night at the office for Bellew, including the man himself and he will be desperate to get back on track, so much so that he is pencilled in for his next fight on October 23rd, only 4 weeks after a tough 12 round fight against a very awkward, but durable opponent. You might want to look out for his progress. I don't think you'll regret it. My apologies once again. :good
That was accidental, honest. :good I really did think it was a wind-up from a Clev fan. I'm not a Clev hater, by the way, I just follow Tony Bellew a little closer as he's from my home city. You never know, I may have inadvertantly spread Bellews name across the American forums and they'll all be streaming his fights to see what the fuss is about. A little extra exposure can't hurt can it? :happy
Great engine, punch variety, speed, workrate and chin. Seems to have heart and signs he can dig deep when required. His down sides are a lack of one punch power and a leaky defence. I can see him struggling to keep at light heavy as he matures because he has a huge frame for the weight and is only like 23
:goodNo problem.Cheers:goodHaven't seem Bellew yet,but every young fighter, especially one that's inexperienced like Bellew, doesn't always look great on the way up the ladder in every fight.Only time will tell.By the way,John Conteh was THE MAN in his day:good
