Following the controversy of the Green/Briggs fight I feel some discussion of the roles of state-run boxing and combat sport commissions becomes pertinent.

Putting the Green/Briggs fight aside for a moment, I think everybody will agree that the frequent and potentially dangerous mismatches occurring in ALL states are damaging to not only fighters, but to the integrity of the sport.

The current 'Don't bite the hand that feeds me' approach, exhibited by various state run commissions in sanctioning said mismatches highlights the need for change in our sport.

Is it time we disband state run commissions and amalgamate to form a nationally recognized Combat Sports Commission?

Would the resulting Commission be beneficial to the growth of boxing and other combat sports in this country? Do you feel that this Commission would simplify unnecessary bureaucracy or rather just add more red tape to the whole situation?

Food for thought or am I getting ahead of myself?

    Comments Welcome.

I have said this before a national boxing/combat sports commission is required in this country for things to be run properly across the board.

Some states (e.g QLD & WA) will sanction anything these days including blown up Super Feathers fighting Middleweights.

I think its about time people woke up and it seems that slowly but surely they are starting to do so! i have been asked not to mention any names so i wont go there but i will say that their is STRONG evidence to support the "Dont bite the hand that feeds me" approach that most of the governing bodys in australian boxing have adapted and contuine to use. Its wrong its not australian and its sure as sht not giving ANYONE involved a fair go!

The only way to get a shake up is to write letters to parliment. In regards to the Briggs/Green fight i do belive that NSW boxing has made the right decision!

We must not forget that NSW Boxing would be liable for any damages done to Briggs if he was to suffer a brain bleed or even die from this bout!

I think its funny now Green has turned on NSW boxing..
I want to call for an inquiry as to why he keeps Milking the public along with Mundane and why he doesnt fight a real world classed crusierweight.

Good Luck in suing our goverment you Bogan! lol
This bloke says it all too well,

And this one takes the cake! in ref to Danny crying oh we got medical experts blah blah, well Danny boy

More and More people are waking up to the Fraud that both Danny Green and Mundane represent, heres another..

All quotes obtained from a Perth News website! hahaha
    And the Circus show contuines....

I dont think having an Australian wide Comission will help in any way.

There needs to be a clampdown on Mismatches. In the first 5-10 fights i think its OK to be fighting Imports, But once our boys become established fighters then i think they need to step up and take on Other Aussies or a better calibre of Import. There are hundreds of guys in Asia that would really test our guys, instead we get severe mismatches.

I also dont agree with Kegsy in this, You mentioned QLD and WA, But you will find that NSW who just clamped down on Briggs are just as guilty over the years. Its also a Worldwide problem, not just in Australia.

Can't disagree. There's a number of people involved in a few state commissions that need to be looked in to. A national body would be good.....unless they are made up of those currently on the state boards and aren't kept accountable.

Promoters will continue to protect their boys wilst they are allowed to. It needs to be pulled in for the sake of the sport

There's so much needed to change.....

Federal Government input to start with.

A closer contact with national medico's.

A respect for State groups by promoters, not the reverse!!!!

    A complete overhaul.

    Course it needs to happen....

    but...

    it never will....

Jobs will be lost. All those people currently employed by the commissions will do everything in their power (both legally and illegally) to ensure such a change will NOT happen. Regardless of how much this country needs it.

sorry for my pessimism here boys....

well he was disqualified in the first fight which he was clearly winning, he lost the second fight by a narrow margin, which could have gone either way had it not been in germany, what we have here folks is a case of tall poppy syndrome, you also seem to say things before your neanderthal like brain has had time to process them, i suggest you try and set up a meeting with danny and his management so that you can help them improve so that they can gain the approval theyve always wanted from you, your a ****ing insignificant pissant with no knowledge about danny have you ever met the guy

This same issue has arisen in the US in recent years with many of the lesser/smaller commissions (especially in the midwest states) sanctioning almost anything.

A national commission is needed in Australia, because quite frankly we are lucky to have more than 10-15 professional boxing cards a month across the country.
Why need state commissions when we barely break 100 active professional boxers???

I understand some on here not being in favour of it, as some may be out of work, but to be honest for this sport to improve & have impartiality across the board it must happen.
A full time board to oversee matters...in some states you are lucky to see more than 1 professional boxing card a month (WA, SA)
