http://www.nativeboxing.com/ Looking at the rankings they are few and limited but its a start. An interesting point is that the rankings are top heavy at the higher weights, especially heavyweight, and the numbers of boxers decrease as they get lighter in weight class. Why are the indigenous Native boxers heavier in the northern part of the continent and much smaller in the southern parts such as Mexico?
Interesting subject now that Shawn Hawk (a full blooded Sioux) is fighting Matt Godfrey (half-Indian) in July. This fight should rightfully take place at a Native casino.
An Indian fighter? ****, I can only remember seeing one Indian fighter recently over on ESPN a few times. I can't remember his name though, but he does somekind of tribal dance before and after he wins a fight. A rather crude and limited southpaw from what I remember.
Theres a Light Heavy named Marcus Oliveria 19-0-1 15ko who i'v seen twice, once against my boy Phil Williams who knocked him down twice and had him beat but got reckless and was tko'd and the second time a few weeks ago and Marcus knocked Otis Griffin out with one punch in the second. He's at least part native and is from a rez in Wisconsin. Good, exciting prospect as well.
Probably because most of the northern American Indians have a large degree of European genes. There were far less Spanish in Latin America than there were English and French in North America.
A decent match this Friday night on FNF is Matt Godfrey versus Shawn Hawk for something called the Soverign Nations Cruiserweight Boxing championship between two Native American Indians. I believe Hawk is a full blood Sioux.
