Navid Mansouri vs. Matthew Mallin II, 10 rounds @ light middleweight

 

Mallin walks out to GNR.

 

Both are Yorkshiremen but the bigger cheers are for Nav Mansouri.

He is from Rotherham, a mere fifteen minutes from Sheffield where the venue is located. Matt "Buster" Mallin hails from Stairfoot, twice as far away.

 

Round 1

Mansouri is rolling his fists around each other, slipping the double jab of Mallin with slick dips of his shoulder. Counter left hook by Mansouri. Right hand downstairs by Mansouri. Mallin is hurling in overhand rights and Mansouri lands a nice combination on him. Right hand on the back of the head by Mallin in a clinch. Another one. The ref separates them. Mansouri does a partial split, widening his legs and poking in a jab on the body. Mallin swats down at his head with a right hand.

Round 2

Mallin is leading with the right hand and following with the left hook. Mallin is scoring well early closing off the distance with quick steps, punching in rhythm. Mansouri begins timing him with the hook off the feint-jab. Left hook, looping right by Mansouri. Mallin is caught loading up and hurt. Mansouri lands some more left and right hooks on Mallin's head. Body shots by Mansouri. Mallin is throwing wide slashing punches while looking to press in and hold. Mansouri is caught with a flush left hook on the jaw but is cracking Mallin on the face with very hard straights and hooks with both hands. Mallin leans in and holds. Mallin is knocked away and nearly dropped by a continued onslaught from Mansouri. Mallin somehow keeps his feet.

10-9 Mansouri, almost 10-8.

Well nobody is going to mistake Matthew Mallin for Matthew Macklin. :!:

(now if I was a GGG hater, I'd add that it might create some confusion when Golovkin drags him up a division for his next title defense :tong)

 

Round 3

Mansouri is landing the right hand over the top. Mansouri is controlling the distance with his jab, loose and fluid with his shoulder rolling in the socket, charging in and clapping down on Mallin with the right hand. Mallin is holding and letting go, picking his spots and scoring occasionally with some nice counter right uppercuts. Mallin is having trouble bringing his gloves back to his face after throwing. Mansouri is DRILLING him with clean counter shots. Mallin down! Twelve seconds left. Mansouri rushes in. Jab and cross both miss past the side of Mallin's neck. Mansouri too sloppy going for the finish. Mallin survives.
