Trainer Naazim Richardson has refused to confirm whether or not he has been the subject of an approach from Amir Khan.

Khan is expected to leave Freddie Roach, his current coach, in the near future - and Richardson is the man heavily tipped to replace him.

Former light-welterweight world champion Khan has revealed he is looking for a trainer who will sharpen up his defence, following a devastating stoppage loss to Danny Garcia in July, which saw him surrender the WBA crown.

However, Richardson thinks the problem is not with Khan's elusiveness, but instead with the division he is competing in.

"At the end of the day, Amir has to pick someone who is going to get him comfortable in his own skin," Richardson told fighthype.com. "I don't think he should compete at 140lbs anymore. They have to get him in a comfortable place.

"It's not just about defence with Amir - it has to do with who he's fighting. When you're fighting a guy [Garcia] that walks around at Lucian Bute's [the former IBF super-middleweight champion] size and they sweat down to 140, and you get hit with a clean shot, that has nothing to do with defence.

"Garcia wins fights at the scale and as long as he can make 140, he's going to be a problem for a lot of guys. That's the thing people have to understand. But Amir needs to be at a comfortable weight and when you look at his shoulders and things of that nature, he doesn't have the easiest cut to 140. Danny has it down to a science."

Richardson has trained, among others, Shane Mosley and Bernard Hopkins - both of whom are expected to act as a mentor to Khan in future.

It seems like that but i think he will feel better at that weight his legs will be stronger and if he addresses his defence problems he be fine.

The same excuse was used when he moved up from 135 to 140. Oh his legs get better. The man has a bad chin, period. The higher he moves up the less effective his power is, the more his amateur style and lack of d becomes a liability.

At 147 Khan is going to have even less power than he already does and is going to be fighting much harder punchers that is Glass Jaw won't be able to take. Anyone that thinks anything will change for the better for Khan at 147 is an idiot. He will just get KOed in more savage and embarrassing fashion. He has a Chin problem. He can't take punches.

Moving up in weight doesn't always guarantee a person will be stronger, you know. By that logic he should go to 154 and be even more durable there. And 160. And so on.

Khan, despite his height and frame, isn't actually a big guy. His body density is pretty low. He's quite light. He walks around in mid 150s the most, and never rehydrates higher than 150 on the night of the fight. Guys like Rios, back when he was a lightweight, weigh heavier than him. Pac, when he was a featherweight, weighed the same. Broner at the moment, who hasn't even fought at lightweight yet, comes in what Khan does.

Seriously, this myth that he's a big JWW need to stop. He's actually what normal JWW of today should weigh. It's his prime weight, in my opinion. He should be kept there for as long as possible. Because those 147 lot -- who can come in as high as mid 160s -- would eat him up.

Naz said Khan struggles with guys at 140 because they outweigh him, at 147 the difference would be even greater.

His punch resistance will always be a problem, I'm not sure how he will be "fine"
