Anyone seen this phenomenon- and anyone got any thoughts? I think its pretty intuitive... only seen small clips though anyone got any significant length video's?

I was under the impression that it was for working distance relating to countering.

Naz does pads also but maybe dosent have the fitness given his stroke etc for over extending and countering, hence the pipework.

    Just a thought.

Probably a little easier on the coach and his elbows, albeit the punches may be lighter as well.

i went to a gym in north jerzey that utilizes them, i think its pretty effective in getting your headmovement better and working on spacing

I've never tried it, but I agree with the above posts that it probably helps the trainer by making it easier to throw counters.

In my gym we use wrenches. They say if you can dodge a wrench, you can probably dodge a counter left-hook. Just sayin'. :)

my trainer sometimes uses these they are pretty good for speed and precision since the target is alot narrower than the pad, but no good for power as it offers no / little resistance

It definetly helps the trainers elbows. Ive seen so many trainer complain about theyre elbows hurting..i mean the pads work, but the arms still take a beating from all the punching.....

i definetly want to try it...i think it also helps with hand/eye cordination....it looks effective...

I think he is just mixing it up, working on different things. I've seen him do 3 types of pad work in 24/7 so far.

Probably Naz saving his hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. Imagine catching punches day in, day out, from 1, 2, 3 fighters per day every day. It has to be hell on old trainers.

That is the reason why Hatton's trainer was released. He couldn't take the pad work.

My trainer is 65, in great condition, and doesn't ***** about the mitts. But I know it has to suck doing mitts with 3 guys back to back, 5 rounds each.

He always says "You don't have to throw hard. We are working on form."

I thought Ricky was just looking for a scapegoat for his shortcomings.
