Margarito has had tough fights with 2 B level fighters and got beaten decisively against a green A level fighter in Williams. Im not selling him short. Ok he beat Cotto, but that was more down to the size difference then anything Margarito did. I'll agree he has amazing stamina and a great chin, but if Cotto was smarter he could have beat Margarito.
Clottey fought to the last second of the 12th round. I dont know how you think his heart was broken. If you wanted to score the bout on who landed the real punches, Clottey won the fight. It was only Margarito's work rate that saved him. Name these people who had Margarito beating Santos. Santos won the final round before the fight was stopped and was lifting Margarito out of his sneakers with hooks. 2 crude fighters going at it. As for Williams. I gave 9 rounds to Williams. Those final scorecards were a joke.
Clottey is a very good fighter, who's only loss other than the one to Margarito was a disqualification. He's one of the top 5 147lb fighters in the world currently. Santos weighed in at 170 on fight night, and I still had him losing the fight up until the stoppage from the cut. Not surprisingly, the fight was in Santos' backyard, which could explain why he got the verdict. Margarito beat Cotto, fair and square. Give credit where its due, and we won't have any problems. EDIT: 9 ROUNDS TO WILLIAMS? You're credibility...POOF! GONE.
i think the most anyone could give it to Margo against Santos was 5 rounds to 4 at the time of stoppage (which is what i had). I don't think you can claim robbery. However even the stoppage was bull****. Margarito was coming on and Santos was running out of gas. Its a great fight. Margarito actually came out fighting southpaw in this fight here is the tale of the tape: This content is protected
Clottey is a B level fighter, nothing more. Seen nothing from him that would suggest otherwise. Very strong, nice counter hook, but nothing special. Probably a top 5 welter, he's number 5 lol. Was probably due to Santos landing all those clean head shots that knocked Margarito back in the 9th round. Unless you think Santos backyard forced Margarito to get hit so cleanly in the face. Never said he didnt. Just dont think a middleweight beating up a 5'5 Puerto Rican is all that to get whipped up about. He was still defeated by a 24 year old Williams. ] Not really. You could make the case Williams won the first 6-7 rounds. Rounds 9-10 could be scored for Williams. And round 12 was clearly Williams. Margarito had 1 good round. That was 11.
Margarito is a very skilled fighter but different in skill from guys like RJJ and PBF, that interview was very accurate. Margarito is more than just a free swinging brawler. He's a fighter that hs devloped his own set of skills, similar in ways to what Hopkins and Mayorga did.
Forget it dude, he's calling Margarito a middleweight despite Marg fighting at 147 for the majority of his career and never above 154.
Richardson is hyping this fight. Margo is a 1 dimensional brawler who couldn't dominate a 1 handed Clottey, got KD by Santos, and outworked and outboxed by Paul Williams and by Cotto, until Cotto's weak chin was exposed and he quit and went home.
Margarito doesn't just stand in front of his opponent and fire punches. When he has his opponent against the ropes, Margo moves his feet from side to side and throws from different angles.
when did Margarito get KD by Santos. did you even see the fight? if he was just hyping the fight he would be calling Margo a bum, a B class fighter, etc. to get all the chicanos riled up and create some bad blood.
