The junior middleweight fight between Gabriel Rosado and Jesus Soto Karass has been bumped to main event status on Saturday night's NBC Sports network boxing premiere, and two new fights have been added to the broadcast as well.

The original main event was scheduled to be a 10-round heavyweight fight between Eddie Chambers and Sergei Liakhovich, but Chambers was forced out of the fight on January 13 with fractured ribs, and Main Events couldn't find a suitable replacement opponent for Liakhovich on such short notice.

The replacement bout will also be a heavyweight fight, set for 10 rounds, between prospects Bryant Jennings (11-0, 5 KO) and Maurice Byarm (13-0-1, 9 KO).

"This series is about giving the fans exciting, action-packed fights where the outcome is in doubt," said promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events via press release.

"It is truly a shame that Chambers and Liakhovich cannot fight on Saturday, but athletes get injured. We tried all weekend to find a suitable replacement to face Liakhovich, but truly competitive opposition could not be found on such short notice. Last night we decided that it would be in the best interests of the fans and the series to go in another direction and present a fight that will live up to the standards that we have set for this project. We are thrilled to have come up with such a compelling bout. The fans in Philadelphia and those watching on TV will have plenty to cheer about on Saturday night."

Neither the 29-year-old Byarm nor the 27-year-old Jennings really projects as a future star, but it's definitely a risky fight for both, and is better than bumping up the scheduled Joel Julio mismatch from the undercard.

Jennings was featured (well, sort of) on the Khan vs Judah undercard last July against Theron Johnson, and won a wide six-round decision. He wasn't particularly impressive, but he had no trouble with the opponent that night. I didn't put him on my shortlist of guys to watch, even in the heavyweight division, for whatever that's worth.

"I often hear people say that there are no American heavyweights," said Russell Peltz, matchmaker for the NBC Sports Network series. "We are presenting a terrific fight on Saturday night at the [ECW Arena] between two promising American heavyweights who are willing to test themselves sooner rather than later."

The other televised fight will be a light heavyweight six-rounder between Cuba's Sullivan Barrera (8-0, 6 KO) and Toledo's Damar Singleton (8-0, 4 KO). I know nothing about Singleton, but having seen Barrera, he's your typical unexciting Cuban prospect. At 29 he's not all that young, and he's probably got no big upside. In Barrera's last fight in June, he knocked out Frank Paines (a guy who gave Despaigne too many problems in a Friday Night Fights main event back in summer 2010) in two rounds. Don't expect that you're seeing the next Yuriorkis Gamboa-type breakout Cuban going in and Barrera probably won't be any big disappointment.

I know it doesn't seem like I'm majorly excited about these replacement fights, and that's just because I'm being honest. I'm not that excited about them. But I truly do believe that Main Events did about the best they could given the lousy situation that was thrown at them. They're basically giving us a couple of ShoBox-type fights instead of some lousy showcase that won't do anything for anyone, and that's perfectly fine.

Plus, that main event has serious sleeper potential. There's no HBO/SHO competition on Saturday, and I truly recommend tuning in or Rosado vs Soto Karass. That could be a hell of a fight. I know this isn't the sort of fight they wanted to kick off the series, but it might get things going on a great note.

This series sounds dead on arrival. First mistake was giving primary control to a promotional company. Second mistake, picking a poor promotional company with no major fighters.

I'm thinking this is Versus/NBC Sports' MMA replacement for what was first WEC and then became UFC Live after Fox got the UFC contract instead of them. The deal that may occur with Top Rank on Spike looks to be the same thing as a holdover til they're allowed to air Bellator in 2013.

As far as major fighters, you do what you can. Eddie Chambers is as big a name a fighter as you're going to get fighting on ESPN or NBC Sports or Spike in 2012 for the money they offer in comparison to PPV/HBO/Showtime.

Yeah it does look that way. It just hurts the sport though when they put out a sub-par product like this. Like when Bob Yates was corruptly running FNF, he about drove boxing to an all time low.

Well what should they do, not put on boxing at all? That's not good for the sport either. They have a budget since NBC Sports is probably paying a set fee per show, and the fights they have gotta be under the budget.

Atleast the shows is still going foward and they didn't put together a Liakovich-Zack Page type of fight on. I don't know much about these two heavyweights but they seem evenly matched and maybe the fight will be entertaining, but I don't know.

The Soto Karass-Rosado match up should be pretty good, it lacks the name power to be a main event type of fight for this card but considering the circumsntances its not bad for a main event. The promoters should have put someone on the undercard just in case an injury happened like it did. Put someone like Lawrence, Estrada, Hanks, Walker, etc on the undercard with the understanding that they step up if someone pulls out.

At least they got some HW's on there. I'll watch it...it's the right price and I'd like them to keep going.

Next time they need to feature Chauncy Welliver and Vincent Thompson though. Step it up with Americans we want to see. Welliver vs Tye Fields and Vincent Thompson vs Skyler Anderson.....hell of an American show there.

i heard they have a budget of 120.000 per show. That's pretty good money. Double of ESPN's budget. With that kind of money they can get a fight like Viloria H. Marquez, Mares Arce. Or if they don't want the little guys. They can show up and comers. Like Mike Jones vs Alvarado or something.

their next show is Judah Paris. Which is going to be a boring fight

I like the Judah vs Paris card...especially if Eddie vs White Wolf gets on there too.

More boxing on TV is a good thing; unless it's Wlad boring the **** out of people.

I think this series, if marketed right, can be really good for boxing. As long as there is plenty of action, it will attract viewers. A Philadelphia heavyweight would have been a nice start to the series, but this bout should be entertaining.

    S. Barrera looks good. Seems entertaining from the fights I have seen. Think he'll win and become a decent contender but I doubt he'll be the next Gamboa as you said. Karass-Rosado is GREAT. And I mean it, This fight is an awesome, Even matchup between two warriors willing to make a slugfest, Both in my opinion fringe contenders. The winner has a lot of doors opened for him, Looser is in a tough spot. And I found some video of Maurice Byarm and Jennings online. look pretty good.

I'm only disappointed that 2 HW contenders are off the FIRST card.....that don't mean they won't be on the next. And with Paris and Judah already slated for March, their still off to a decent start.

It'd be great if they could make a Hanks vs Wilder fight or like Mess siad, a Chuancey vs Fields fight. I like the HW division, and anything decent going on up there will sell to the american audience.

And this opening round is still better than out typical FNF, so who can really complain.:good
