    I don't think Smith has the potential to reach elite status, at all. He's already proven that he falls well short of that.

    He has, however, mixed with far better company than Cruz.

    Cruz probably isn't even the 5th best opponent Smith has been in with. Conversely, Smith is the best Cruz has faced by miles.

    As did Kovalev. Almost retired.

    Gave a bunch of money to the guy's family, and kept sending them prayers and well wishes even though he knew they probably didn't want to deal with him face to face.

    There's a reason Twitter fans, and one judge, and the NBC team were all swayed into thinking Cruz did well. (although in the latter case, it may have been more to do with "following the script"...)

    Every time Cruz even brushed Smith's hip with a limp right hand, the crowd would go "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH" and it came across like a thunderous body shot - which it wasn't. Likewise, right hand by Cruz up top (or left hand out of the southpaw stance) grazing Smith's face as Smith rolled away from it... "WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAA!!!"

    People always harp about hometown decisions, but fairly often judges get it right. Decisions like this are good for boxing and need to be remembered.

    The only time Lopez went down in the Ortiz fight was when Victor straight sucker-punched him at the base of the skull. Not sure what you're talking about with knockdowns by punches ruled low blows.
