Hey Scully, I got a question for ya. Is Mike Oliver still the mandatory for the IBF champ Molitor? I know they just held an eliminator between Arboleda and Beltran this past weekend, and I heard about this IBF rule, which could apply to Oliver, since he won the IBO strap against Seeger: “Boxers that contract to fight for other world titles or elimination bouts shall be considered unavailable and will be lowered or removed from the rankings,” reads Section 12 of the IBF ratings criteria. So, Im just wondering, does Oliver still get his shot and Beltran waits, or does Beltran become the new official mandatory, and Oliver has lost his mandatory status? Thanks.
Thanks for sharing, Mr. Scully. It seems like people often become overzealous when training - when in fact they should show more respect for those helping them train and save the hard core attitude for once they hit the actual fight ring. PS - I always enjoy your commentary on the ESPN fights. Thanks.
U know whats crazy..I have always been under the impression that the big three (WBA, WBC, IBF) didnt care if you fought for a minor belt, etc. But, in any event, we are still ranked #2 so that tells me that they didnt penalize us for fighting for the IBO title. Any way you slice it, though... we gained the #2 spot with a 12 rd. decision over Carvajal...how in the world we should or would have to fight one of those guys to get to be one slot up at #1 is INSANE to me. How do those two guys get to fight for that spot ahead of us?? That makes NO sense!!! U know?
LOL, the internet really bugs me out sometimes. The fact that you could know who I even am all the way over there due to the internet is so crazy to me. Man, if I had all this info so easily attainable to me with clicks of a mouse while I was in high school...I might still be there! LOL
I agree with you Scully. I thought it was strange when I looked on the schedule and saw written below Arboleda vs. Belran jr. "IBF Super Bantamweight Eliminator". I thought to myself, didnt Oliver win an eliminator on espn in the summer? I also wondered why they would have an eliminator between a #8 and #15. I have no idea what the IBF plans to do, now that they have 2 boxers who have won eliminators. I guess we will find out in the coming weeks or months, though Im sure you will find out whats gonna happen before I do.
not sure yet. I went to the last 2 with my bro, but looks like he will be busy that weekend. I'm considering asking my buddies if they wanna go, but they are all big UFC fans who have never heard of Steve Molitor :-( , except for maybe 1 guy, so there probably wont be much interest, especially with there being a UFC the same day. I'll have to decide soon though, as tickets seem to go really fast. I didnt have much selection for the 3K Battery fight because I waited too long. If I dont get to the Castillo match in Jan, I'll probably go to the one in April, where he should be facing his mandatory (who knows who thats going to be).
Oh, man, that's a given...Mike did anything he wanted to against the guy.... nothing against him, he just was not in Oliver's league last night... THAT is what made it so crazy, his coach acting like they were whipping Mike-Mike or something when it was obviously to everyone else what was happening. It was 10 punches to one, at least.
so ****in true..everyone in the GTA Ive talked to is addicted to UFC. Everyone is also asking where to get them affliction shirts
Also, I forgot to mention the best part... the coach has another boxer who sparred that day.. the kid is 17 years old.....has six amateur fights, all wins.... and the coach tells me that no tonly will he knock out recently crowned U.S. Olympian Demtrius Andrade...but he will beat FLOYD MAYWEATHER! ( I am being serious!). He has the kid spar with Pito Cardona the same day the chaos almost took place...and Pito bloodied his nose badly and hurt his ribs even worse (the kid had to stop after the second round). The Golden Gloves starts in one month and the kid is rightfully a novice class boxer but his coach is putting him in the open class. After the sparring the kid asked ME if he should go open cloass... I tell him no way..he says he knows, he doesnt want to go open. It just shows you.... the process of becoming a certified U.S. amateur boxing coach is very very flawed. I also looked up the record of the guy Mike-Mike boxed with.... 4-12!!!!! And the coach was telling me how this guy would beat us in a real fight. INSANITY
