Nearly 50 million households tuned in for Katie Taylor's unanimous-decision victory over Amanda Serrano in Texas in the early hours of Saturday morning. Taylor got the better of her Puerto Rican opponent for the second time after the judges scored the bout 95-94 in favour of the Bray native.
Are these the highest viewing figures for a world title fight in boxing history? Did more people see this co-main than the amount of fans that saw the rumble in the jungle? The Rumble in the Jungle, was a heavyweight championship boxing match on October 30, 1974. Some sources estimate that the fight was watched by as many as one billion television viewers around the world, becoming the world's most-watched live television broadcast at the time. This included a record estimated 50 million viewers watching the fight on pay-per-view or closed-circuit theatre TV. The fight grossed an estimated $100 million (inflation-adjusted $600 million) in worldwide revenue. Decades later, the bout would be the subject of the Academy Award winning documentary film When We Were Kings.

I keep hearing people saying Barrios-Ramos was the best fight of the night. That fight was very good, but Serrano-Taylor was Great.

At 38 well past her prime she beat Serrano again in her home country whether by hook or crook she got the job done.

Serrano is also past her prime and moved up what? 20 pounds to get her head busted up and held like an octopus?

Fair call but Serrano is more active and has the heavy backing of Jake Paul I also wouldn't be surprised if she was juicing her pulling out of that fight where she was supposed to headline in Puerto Rico was a bit suspicious.

    Sophistry at best!

While I'm sure many wanted to see the ladies duke it out and it was a good scrap, the vast majority - me included - were tuning in to the freakshow to see if Tyson had one last hurrah and could lay out numbnuts.

    Coattails!
