1 loss doesnt mean Cotto can't go onto be a great fighter.

Tyszu lost in a similar way to Phillips and went onto rule the 140lbers

Barrera got battered by Junior Jones twice, yet went onto beat his conquorer (Morales) and the featherweight king Hamed.

Pacquaio after his loss to Morales was seen as 1 dimensional and having no chance of avenging his defeat. Now hes most peoples P4P no1

Ali got beat in a similar way (Frazier won wide and hurt and floored him) and he went onto dominate the HW division for the next 5+years

Leonard got largely dominated by Duran, avenged the defeat and became the fighters of the 80s

Lennox Lewis was ko'd be McCall and went onto to avenge the loss and dominate the heavies

Suddenly Cotto is written off as a bad fighter after 1 loss but he still has the same abilities. Cotto is still the same fighter who was able to win the early rounds and show superior technical skills. If he improves his workrate, fights on the front foot using his jab more it maybe enough to avenge his first defeat. I was a big Cotto critic but I see him coming back better and improved.

I think this is good for cotto, if he can go back into the gym learn from his mistakes and come out stronger faster better then he can be up there!

Cotto will be back. No question!

To be fair, he will probably have access to more big fights now, albeit with slightly reduced negotiating leverage.
