Are you allowed to punch a fighter in the neck during the boxing match. I've never seen it. Can you punch the throat area intentionally
Ken Norton knocked Duane Bobick out in 58 seconds with a right hand to the Adam’s apple … not that he was particularly aiming there but that’s where it landed and it was a legal KO.
I always assumed it went illegal at some point because I just haven't noticed it much after that Norton-Bobick fight. Rocky Marciano did it A LOT against Archie Moore, whenever Moore would bob and weave, Marciano would shoot down on him. BAM! I don't understand why more boxers don't go for the throat, having heard what you chaps say about the legality of it. A lot of fights would end a lot quicker if guys went for those neck shots. Takes a lot of breath out of you real fast. Imagine a shot to the Adam's apple followed by a monster left to the belly.
Wow, I didn’t know the great Brock Peters was in any of those films. Anyway, a good shot to the neck and “nek” minute they’re down - as this boxing “expert” tells and indicates it: - [ This content is protected MEDIA=youtube]BXBxcsBHOtE
Boxers get hit in the neck all the time. Usually a punch is thrown to where the boxer thinks his head will be not where it is. If the boxer throwing the punch hits the neck its usually a miscalculation based off film or previous feints.
I know alot of the old old timers like Fitzsimmons specifically aimed for the side of the neck. Fitz is also quoted quite a bit saying he aimed for the side of the neck
I remember reading Charles could hardly talk after his fight with rocky, due to a punch to the throat.
You can only legally punch the side of the neck, not the back or the throat and I think it's pretty obvious why.
Where in the rules does it say you cannot hit the throat, ok it is hard to with boxing gloves but it is legal.
It is hard, true and is not explicitly stated, but we better not see a trachea punch in Boxing. It's interesting as it's officially forbidden under the Unified MMA Rules, thus by the Association of Boxing Commissions: Official Unified Rules of MMA (mn.gov). I've never seen intentional punch there, not even unintentional, but you can get sanctioned for unintentional low blow or rabbit punch and considering a throat strike looks a shady area in Boxing, again - we better not see one. People break orbital bones, damaging a trachea is way easier, but with a high risk of lethality. Let's put it short: maybe I'm wrong and it is legal. That's insane even if it happens once in a century.
