Hi, Ive been an avid watcher of boxing for around 10 years, I recently decided to regain some fitness after a long layoff, currently doing 6-8 miles 4-5 days a week running, Lifting weights 4 days per week, I lift heavy for my weight, currently at about 160 at 5'11.Now I want to buy a punchbag(same as heavybag?) but Ive never boxed but if I like where I get to in the next 2 months Im going to consider joining a gym.For a new guy who weighs 160, what weight of Bag should I get where I can do 30 mins solid on it?Ive seen some cheap ones on ebay ranging from 20kg-50kg, also they seem to be 3 feet, 4 feet and 5 feet, which is the best length? Thanks for any help!

While it may not answer your question, why not join the gym right away? There is no minimum skill level at boxing gyms unless you're planning on hiring Emanuel Steward. Your fitness will improve while you work on boxing skills. If you start hitting the bag at home without supervision you will get some bad habits that you need to get rid of later. Why the hassle, just join a gym.

If you get a cheap bag from ebay get the heavier one, 80+ pounds at least.

It looks like a kickbox bag (they're longer).

You should be able to see the measurements on ringside.com or titleboxing.com . They have the best prices and material for boxers. If you are in europe I recommend purchasing an unfilled bag since freight costs will probably be very expensive.
