I started sparring and I tend to do bad against defensive counter punchers. How do you beat boxers that always move back to avoid your punches and throw one big punch to counter you? When I try to use the jab to get in to land a right hand, he knows that I'm trying to be aggressive so he starts to move back and I can't land any punches then after my one-two fails, he would counter me with a right cross. So I got frustrated and just went up to him and threw bunch of hooks and he keep moving back using Philly Shell defense. How do you beat boxers like him?
Have you tried to feint that one big shot out of him then counter that yourself? Or if he is only defending that first phase go again with a second phase. Single punches generally won't work with a counter puncher, and mix both the power and variation of your shots up so your not easy to defend against. Im not proclaiming to be an expert feel free to drop me a message if you like as obviously your level of experience ability will very much dictate what you can/can't do
Start with a tight guard go forward throwing multiple shots. If you throw single shots you are playing into a counter punchers hands. Throw fast multiply shots, go forward make him uncomfortable and don't let him get into a rhythm.
be patient. you're new and he's experienced. you're exactly where you are supposed to be. if it was easy, everyone would do it. counter punch the counter puncher. if, when you do A, then he does B, next time you do A, watch for his B and counter it. ex. every time you jab he steps back and counters with a straight right, next time you jab watch for his right, roll under it and step in with a hook or 1-2. if he's a step back counter puncher then your offensive range gets to be adjusted closer before you throw (like someone said earlier keeping a high guard and pressure), to make up for the distance he's using to exit. once you start having some success with the process i mention above, then start experimenting with feints and fakes to draw his counter instead of using the jab. as a new boxer you still need to know what your range is to be effective whether that's with feints or real punches.
Try to move or change angle or pivot after jab. Throw to body after jab puts your head in different position. Try a 2-1 instead of 1-2 Throw a fake one two step back or pivot/roll wait for his straight to miss then throw yours and cover or move Basically confuse him. It's very easy if someone always throws one two all the time
Hes not trying to catch a wild animal that ran in his living quarters in his home on the top floor on a regular basis, hes trying to out fight another guy. what would going up and down a staircase chasing a fox have to do with out pointing someone?
You've obviously never had a fight in your entire life so your opinion is about as useful as a sloths....
Thats actually funny when you post because the word SLOTH actually makes sense to me bc i envision a boot covered in wet snow and mudd to wipe off a boot...LMAO !
well unlike Wass..you DO have boxing knowledge. and your vids are great btw in the you tube vids I looked them up.
Thanks. But you already trashed me. You trashed other credible posters here, some who have contributed greatly to an ever evolving discussion and study into boxing. I can tell you have a lot of passion, which is cool. But at some point you are going to realize that giving others the benefit of the doubt will help you figure things out better and build rapport for future conversations.
You only fooled yourself, posted a illogical vid that showed the opposite actually and went on a pointless rant. and yes I trashed posters like Wass/HEROL/Dino Velvet and dago Wop because they are negative knuckle heads with lack of common sense like you.lol
