I'm 5'9 and about 140 right now. I'm skinny and thin with very little muscle. I can pretty much eat whatever I want and not gain weight. I've only fought 3 exhibition matches and I know that if I want to seriously compete I have to choose a weight class. I'm way too weak for 140 but what I'm trying to say is it possible to lose weight and get stronger?

I can't see you gaining much strength at all while losing weight. You're already too skinny at 140lbs, you have no good reason to lose more weight.

Just to add, you don't gain weight because you don't eat enough to, simple as that.

Mate, don't concern yourself with "choosing" a weight.
Train for strength and let the weight choose you.

People often confuse size with strength. They are completely different.
You can build strength without adding size, just as you can ad size without adding strength.

Focus on training your explosive strength, speed and power, and your body will find it's comfortable weight

Train hard and see where your body decides to go. It will adapt, if you train well the body will seek an optimum shape to maximise your efficiency, whatever it is you are doing. It doesn't work the other way around.

I'm 5'9" at 140 and I'm lean as ****. My face is a bit thin at this weight but I have enough muscle for boxing.

Just train hard both for increased strength and increased endurance - don't worry so much about the end result.

5'9 and 127 lbs here. I do bodyweight exercises and I feel strong enough at this weight.

There's a lad at the uni gym who is 6'2 and fights at 62kg

I dont know what the **** you are fussing about anyway, Caballero is 5'11 and fights at 122, dont think he's in any danger of dropping dead do you?

So that makes being a twig ok then since your friend from uni is so ridiculously thin  What is it with boxers thinking they can get away with being so underweight like they're something special? I'm 2 inches shorter than you and weigh 170lbs, I feel skinny, so how you don't feel embarrassed by your weight I don't know.

It's more the long term affects on the body that you have to worry about. It doesn't matter though, you're happy being a twig so carry on.

Why the **** would I be embarassed about ym weight you tosser?

I am strong at my weight, can easily notch out 60 straight pushups or 20 pull ups and ive never had to stop myself eating anything.

I got down to about 10 1/2 stone (147lbs) due to working waaaaay too long (bout 76 hours) and not eating enough. No muscle and no actual strength, I was embarrassed being so thin. Like I said, if you're happy being the same weight as a skinny teenager carry on, mate.

    1. 60 push-ups does not mean you're strong.
    2. 20 Pull-ups is impressive but most people that say this don't do anywhere near full ROM. If you can then nice job.
    3. Never had to stop yourself eating anything? So you're saying you can eat what you want and not gain weight? Ok. Consume 3500 calories a day and see if you gain weight...
