Hi, i'm getting ready to compete in some local tournements and my coach told me to just get the thin headgear with the open face, so it can give me a better vision and i won't have to move that extra inch to slip the punches. Can someone recommend me a good open face and light head gear. Also, should i follow this advice, or some i get the full face padding, will it absorb the same amount of blows that i will be getting? From my understanding, headgears just there to protect you from cutts, and it really doesn't help the impacts that you take to the head that much. Any help or advice will be much appreciated. Thank You!

Just make sure it is USA boxing approved and has the patch on it. Otherwise, it will be useless.

as a fighter i preferred the smaller open faced headgear ur trainer suggested. it makes ur head a smaller target and it does not impair ur vision. if ur a fighter that moves his head a lot...u might like the open faced headgear. i've always believed headgear gives u a false sense of security. the best protection is not getting hit at all. there is no substitute for good defense.

I use Everlast but with cheek protectors, Everlast makes a hell of a good headgear though. Them and Fight Gear.
