There was a very prolific boxing manager on the West Coast around the 1980s — maybe have dated back to the ‘70s and gone into the ‘90s, not sure — who had a stable of I think more than 100 fighters. May have also included some Mexican fighters. You couldn’t watch a fight from California in that time without some of his guys showing up. IIRC he always worked their corners, or at least did so if they were main eventers or in prime undercard positions. Not sure if he ever had any champs, but his guys were always in shape (even on short notice) and always came to fight. If you saw him enter the ring with a fighter, you knew his guy was going to bring the best he had and give everything he could. I want to start a thread to learn more about him, but, dangit, I can’t rememer his name. Anybody know who I’m talking about?
I believe you're talking about Jimmy Montoya. Had a huge stable of not so promising fighters but as you said, they were all in demand. Eventually did have a few good ones under contract like Hector Camacho and Tony Baltazar.
This is who I was thinking of. Can anyone tell me more about him — who was he, how did he gather such a huge stable, who were some of his fighters, etc.?

If anyone remembers Flash Gordon and his publication, he used to always have harsh words about Jimmy. He would talk about Jimmy and his cadaver wagon coming to town and some of his fighters whom he deemed no-hopers and would re-name them Ben Dover, Izzy Tanking or Willie Dive. But that acerbic style of writing was prevalent with him and he cast his net wide with name calling and accusations. Few people in the sport were inviolate from Flash.
I wonder if anyone has a complete collection of Flash's newsletter. It'd be cool if it were digitized and available for research. My first thought was the Goosen brothers, but after reading the thread I assume the OP is thinking of Jimmy Montoya.
He commonly used those when the opponent was TBA. You knew the house fighter was going to be facing an “opponent” type so he gave the clever names. Malcolm “Flash” Gordon was a unique and interesting character. I subscribed for a couple of years.
