I think you will disagree with me on this as this is not a popular thought for a testosterone laden male, but I think it is a fear of being hit. Go into your next sparring match telling yourself to keep your chin down no matter what.

Why are you getting into street fights?

I always had my chin down when I sparr even when I started boxing.

But the thing that helped me was that when I shadow boxed I always maked sure that my chin was hidding behind my Lead shoulder. I guess now its just muscle memory.

Or he is just a teenager and that's the crap they do. Unless of course you never left the house when you were younger, in that case, I completely understand where you are coming from! :yep

Huh? Leaving your house as a teenager means you have to get into fights? I was a teenager for quite a few years, I never had a single fight. I've had pricks try to start a fight, but it's not difficult to get out of those situations, unless of course you're an idiot and want to fight which is pretty much what I was saying in my above post.

It's only really people who are insecure or think they have something to prove that will fight whoever for no good reason.

As a teenager I went to a pretty rough high school, I never got into any fights. The only guys that did were the ****ing idiots who didn't know how to walk away.

i havent been in a street fight recently im just saying when i get in them
and when i sparred today my chin was down but yesterday i had my chin up every now n then and i got clocked a few times it cant be because im scarred to get hit if i was scarred i wouldnt be boxing. but today when i sparred my chin was down it only comes up when i throw combos i guess you're right about telling myself to keep it down i just got to make it a habit every single time i box someone

I know a lot of people who are scared to box and box. Personally, I think they are synonymous to an extent. However, many boxers I know alter their punches, hold their body upright, and lift their chins due to a fear of being hit when they are green. I could be wrong, it's just my experience.
I think a lot of folks who post these types of threads probably have only sparred only a handful of times. Anyways, good luck.

Walk away from a fight as a teenager? Geez you guys should have lived a little more. Fights at parties happened every weekend at my school and the entertainment was amazing! I don't do that stupid **** anymore but before you turn 18, you should have had some fun! And I didn't go to a rough high-school but drunk fights are inevitable! You guys took life to seriously when you were young. Now you sit here and call the younger guys idiots lol. You'll be the grumpy old man fo sho!

Yeah, fights growing up are almost a rite of passage. I feel good about my broken tooth and the odd scars I picked up.

    Get some sense, too:

'I keep my chin up in fights...'

Keep it down then. I don't know what some people expect, maybe some contraption that fits over the head.

Shadowbox with a small sponge or a pencil held between your chin and your chest-neck area. If it falls, pick it up and make it stay.

well, to avoid the street fights, i would suggest maybe not wearing the head gear when going out?

It's because you're scared to get hit, whether you know it or not. The only thing you can do is force yourself to keep your chin down and eyes on the opponent. You have to build it as a habit because it's counterintuitive.

    I had the same problem.
Shadowboxing with a tennis ball tucked under my chin really helped me.
