He does seem to have connections in the Middle East. He probably purports to be a good Muslim, while flaunting his materialistic lifestyle.

He had a double hip replacement in 2017 and sat out for a few years. I think his social media presence is real (or as real as a common celebrity's). The number of comments he receives matches up to the number of followers and they're real comments or at least coming from what appear to be real accounts. He was on German Big Brother and probably made a good chunk of money between the fights in Germany and the Povetkin and Vitali fights.

He also apparently got shot four times over social media beef.

    Manuel Charr

    - Charr is 40, was shot in the abdomen four times 11 days after being one-punch KO'd by Briedis in 2015 and had a double hip replacement in 2017

    - Prior to losing to Briedis, Charr lost to Duhaupas, Povetkin and Vitali

    - Charr was selected as a knockover job opponent for Vitali's farewell fight in 2012

    - Charr's best career wins are competitive decisions over Kevin in 2014, Leapai in 2015 and a 40+ Ustinov in 2017 (followed by 3.5 years of inactivity, a de facto retirement)

    - Charr was a 67-33 underdog in a proposed fight with a 2+ year inactive Trevor Bryan in 2021: one of many fights that have fallen through for Charr over the years, including Haye, Oquendo (due to Charr failing a PED test), Browne and Miller, with Charr embroiled in several drawn-out legal battles

Charr will return to the ring for the first time in 2 years against 43 year old Pulev next month, with Charr having delayed this "WBA regular title" fight for 8+ months after sustaining an alleged injury.

He's a rubix cube wrapped inside of an enigma.

Though I would be interested in hearing the WBAs honest opinion of him with no filter

Honestly, it’s one of the most intriguing stories in the sport.. nearly unbelievable…

I remember someone mentioned that he was some form of WBA champion a few months back in a post, and I thought it was a joke..

This kind of insanity could only happen in Europe.

I remember he was a hustler in the beginning, trying to get fights with Haye etc.

To be fair, the Vitali fight was stopped on a single cut, seemed pretty ridiculous.

He was a novelty character in Russia for a number of years, I remember him getting cheers from the crowd like a celebrity and was baffled. That was during Russia's love affair with American entertainment media, trying to mimic it, so they probably blew a lot of money on him to be part of the circus.

Russia also was aligned with Syria when the democracies destroyed it, not sure exactly when that lined up, but Charr was running around waving the Syrian flag for a while pretending to care about the place while having abandoned it for Germany.

Wouldn't surprise me if the EU gave him 'support' for his role as 'Syrian humanitarian ambassador for migrant gentlemen'.

I'm interested in what form of facial hair he will sport for this fight.

He spends quite a bit of time on grooming and facial hair maintenance, I think, so with any luck it'll be just right for the Pulev fight (if it goes ahead).

There always seems to be an old farth who has a court case against WBA to keep their super/regular dog and pony show going.

Now they can collect world championship sanctoning fee for 2 fights in the same division in december.

Do you guys really believe that Charr will fight in Sofia against Pulev, because I don't. Not until I see him getting at the ring.
