Me and my friend have been arguing on where Pacquiao should be on a P4P list ( he says he should be around 90ish, and I said around Top 40) He gave me this list of fighters that he thinks rank over Pacquiao: Sugar Shane Mosley, Vinny Pazienza, Hector Macho Camacho, Naseem Hamed, Evander Holyfield, Meldrick Taylor, Mike Tyson, Riddick Bowe, Oscar De La Hoya, Lennox Lewis, Wladimir and Vitali Klitischko, Erik Morales, Diego Corrales, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Roger Mayweather, Kostya Tszyu, Ricky Hatton, Jose Luis Castillo,Jermaine Taylor, Joe Calzaghe, George Foreman, Miguel Cotto, Vernon Forrest, Winky Wright,Marco Antonio Barrera, Antonio Margarito, Julio Cesar Chavez, Paul Williams, Kelly Pavlik, James Toney, Aurthur Abraham, Ricardo Lopez, Larry Holmes,Virgil Hill, William Joppy, Michael Nunn, Buddy McGirt, Fernando Vargas, and Felix Trinidad. I told him I wouldn't rate any of them over Pacquiao with the exception of JCC. So, the question is this: Do you see anyone on that list, other than JCC, that you would rate over Manny?
And people call me a Pac hater? Evander Holyfield Oscar De La Hoya Lennox Lewis Floyd Mayweather Jr. Julio Cesar Chavez Larry Holmes The above are the only ones on the list I could even see an argument for, though I'm not positive I'd rate any of them higher.
The William Joppy mention had me rolling.:rofl This guy must've been refused an autograph or something.
. Thanks for your opinion Sweet Pea. But could you explain in a little more detail as to why you would even consider those fighters?
There wasn't much depth to my thought process in naming them. I just generally rate those fighters in the top 50 or thereabouts, right around where I'd probably rank Pacquiao. They each have very different qualities that put them in a similar class. Come to think of it though, go ahead and oust Oscar from that list.
That is pure hate...it clouds the mind. Personally I would only have Chavez over him aswell...Floyd aint to far behind, so its up to personal preference if you see him above or below. I would defo have Pac around top 40 now...but when he gets to those lofty heights **** gets real..You have to do a lot to even edge a few spots ahead because you are in with some true greats IMO.
Most of those names are incredibly ****ing laughable. Seriously, what the **** have Pazienza, Margarito, Vargas, Pavlik, Joppy, R Mayweather, Hamed beaten or accomplished that even remotely compares to the names and accomplishments on Manny Pac's record?!! Roger Mayweather?!! Roger was a good fighter, but who are the biggest names on his record? Sammy Fuentas, Terrence Alli and Pazienza? That leaves, what, getting a decision over Harold Brazier while being beaten around the ring for the last few rounds? And getting knocked out in almost every other big name fight he ever had? Tell your friend to lay off the hate. Anyway, my list of names would look similar to Sweet Pea's but like he said later oust De La Hoya and Holyfield is questionable too, in my mind.
Thanks everyone for your opinions. Seems to me that my friend was indeed hating on Pacman. I haven't fully convinced him yet of how good Manny is, but with a couple more wins under his belt I might not have to.
I pick Holyfield, Chavez, and Holmes over Pac with the caveat that Pac definitely could overtake even them if he finishes strong. Pac and Floyd will hopefully settle that issue. I don't necessarily think a H2H win guarantees a ranking over another fighter but in this case I think it would be appropriate.
