In a March 1996 edition of Boxing News the brilliant Ghanaian Azumah Nelson called out Naseem Hamed in a winner takes all bout. Of course it came to nothing, but what if it did happened? Nelson was the bigger man and in his last hurrah; Naseem coming back after a hand injury, and just starting to show his excellence, that saw him beat an awful lot of good and very good fighters. What is your pick?
Excellent idea for a thread. I wish this fight had actually happened. Basically, I feel even a well past-prime Nelson would have had too much nous for young Naz. As long as the Professor kept his composure and did not get drawn into a firefight, I can see him boxing safely but aggressively, outfighting Naz by using his experience and better fundamentals, and emerging with a hard-fought UD.
