Sanchez stopped him even though Whitaker couldnt even hurt him years later....at a heavier weight.

Zap me your stuff on Sanchez, John. I still think he benefitted from an early death regarding any sort of rating.. but I'll watch/read the info you may have to send.

Whitaker was a pure boxer, not a puncher, and he put a clinic on a closer to prime Nelson, whereas the Sanchez fight was very close going into the last round. Let's not put too much stock into it that way. Also, Nelson being stopped had A LOT to do with fatigue, as he was barely able to stay on his feet when the last round began. 15 rounds with Sanchez, working at the high pace he was, was simply too much for a young fighter like Nelson.

I have thought about this many times.

Based on logic, a prime Nelson would have beaten Sanchez based on what a rather inexperienced Azumah accomplished in their only fight.

But then, the great ones always has a habit of doing something which goes against all logic. And Salvador was truly a great.

Who would I pick? I think I would stick to logic in this one and pick "the Professor".
