Flash got me thinking about this in the right time and place thread.

I think the best version of Gomez we could put at 126 would be to have him jump up immediately after his Juan Meza victory. He had recovered from the Sanchez loss and didn't have the debilitating Lupe Pintor war on his wheels. The version that fought Sanchez did have to cut substantial weight pre fight and i think we would bypass that version just in case. He was impressive against LaPorte but was fading and regardless Nelson beat him next fight so the title holding version is obviously a no go.

I think Gomez from 2 1/2 years previous to the Nelson fight would be the best we can do for him here.

So how do we all see it? Be sure to vote.

I still have to go with Nelson. The strength he possesses plus the pressure on this version of Gomez still makes him work too hard and expend alot of energy over 15 rds. I think he hears the final bell but he loses a decision

I agree but don't doubt a stoppage. Don't forget to throw in a vote.

Gomez at featherweight had clearly lost a step in my opinion . And Nelson was beginning to actually look like "the professor" after the Sanchez lost. At Featherweight I don't see Gomez being able to beat Nelson. Especially when considering Gomez had gone away from what had made him so great (great boxing ability+power) , and began to depend almost exclusively on his power. Prime Gomez, (At bantamweight) I can see him giving Nelson a boxing lesson, and winning a unanimous dec. But at feather/super feather and at that point in his career , Nelson beats him and probably stops him every time.
