Never Gymless: Opinions

    Just got the book "never gymless" by Ross Enamait as i will be without a gym for the next few months unless i was pay £5 per time i use it which im not willing to do and was wondering what people thought of this book? If anyone has used it i would be grateful to hear about your results.

    Iv got infinite intensity by him best training book i ever got. If im not following his routines then mine are based directly on his as much as possible. Also found the way it was written was outstanding if i can understand the theory behind what hes saying anyone can :!:

    Never gymless is great. There was a period when I had no equipment and the book was a great help.

    Now I think about it I was in better shape back then.

    Decent books about training with no gyms, sure.
    The guy himself is a ***** though, so this puts me off reading his books anymore.
    as a beginner it was cool but ultimately its nothing magic and a lot of innovation just to be different rather than effective.

    As a respected poster on such matters would you say the innovation is detrimental to the effectiveness? or in any other way negative?

    As far as conditioning goes, I'd say not to worry too much about technique. Of course, don't abandon it, and try to think abput technique as often as you can, especially during the early rounds, but always remember the point of the exercise, to condition you.

    Make sure that you balance out your conditioning training with light technique training. But as your fitness levels increase, it will become harder for you to tire, and therefore you can focus alot more on technique. Never abandon technique.

    Also, about the book, I do have it and I find it to be really good. It's the only work of Ross' that I have read, other than some of his posts on his website, but I find it to be a good read if you are looking for some new and solid bodyweight exercises to incorporate into your routine. It's nothing ground breaking or anything, but it is money well spent. I'd say that it is a must-read for beginners-intermediates.

    Innovation is not detrimental, but some things are silly, I think.
    Sprinting against a band indoors to improve leg power!!!! ... or you can go outside and sprint, or do some squats, or do some jumps or weighted jumps. And everything has to be homemade, otherwise its not hardcore and effective. Sure its a lot cheaper and usually just as good, but damn. Its not a great deal better than the bodybuilding mags, huge amount of supplements, use this coconut shoulders routine for 8 weeks. Instead its the equivalent but for conditioning/fighting sports. Has to come up with something HARDCORE and REAL DEAL and involving OLD SCHOOL tools and techniques. The best thing about his site are the equipment posts, those are genuinely useful. But did you really need him to tell you that a good way to condition yourself is by doing circuits of simple bodyweight exercises, or run some sprints, or jump rope, or hit the bag? Or to get stronger do some explosive lifting, or do some advanced bodyweight variations?
    Useful, and good to add to your arsenal, and you should save money where possible as a lot of stuff are a big ripoff, BUT realise that its the equivalent of any other personal trainer by pushing the BODYWEIGHT WORKOUTS, BOXING CONDITIONING, SLEDGEHAMMER TRAINING, and all that **** that people love to hear about and will make them OLD SCHOOL. He's selling a product by giving out basic, effective and easy-to-do workouts and ideas, which are pretty good, but they are in NO way his own ideas or unique in any way to him. And big surprise, you get good results from following the principle of WORKING HARD with some solid movements and exercises? Shocker. Plus there is the added benefit that his whole shpiel is that you don't need weights to get stronger, so nearly noone gets injured, but most guys on his forum are really not very strong at all in the scheme of things, they are strong compared to guys that don't train anything for strength, but again, they didn't need Ross's methods to get stronger, they needed to get some ****ing work done.

    Plus, with hard work, you can achieve any results, without having to do "ross training", or accrediting your success to your "paleo diet", or put all your strength gains down to the no-xplode you take before your workout. YOU got the results, not some other jackass or book or fad diet or because some guy tells you to do burpees for time. He didn't get you where you were, YOU did. He's just a guy earning his living off of very basic and very effective methods that any half decent gym or trainer in the world would tell you to do.

    I guess my whole problem with him is that people worship him for no good reason, and its NOT because of him people achieve results (the majority of which are beginners or guys who were dedicated boxers from the start anyway). He is one of the most popular internet fitness figures and it annoys the **** out of me because he is no better and probably a lot worse than some guys in a basement gym in some crummy town working their ass off after their day job and producing champions (pretty sure he has not done this either, Matt Godfrey I know is one of his and is a decent fighter). His methods are no different than what hundreds of other coaches do, just he marketed himself very well with it all.

    as with anything else, you should read it, try things out for yourself, and compare it to your previous results, and take it into your regular training, or don't.

    He says quite a lot of offensive stuff on Facebook as his statuses and comes across as a very narrowminded guy, and then 50 guys suck his dick and laugh about it, but there is a theme of having a big chip on his shoulder, no time for anyone else who isn't like him, and no acceptance of other ways of life. Something that really was the icing on the cake was when he said "stupid people should be put down, period." something very similar to that, I ****ed him off from my list after that sort of ridiculous thing. It was about some woman parking or something really mundane. Do I want to learn anything from that sort of individual? He can **** right off.

    Fair enough. I have spoken to him on his forum on numerous occassions and found him to be very polite and helpful.

    I've never actually read his Facebook statuses, so who knows, maybe he is a bit of a ****. But he doesn't seem that way on his forum.
