Hagler was ruled down by pathetic referee Tony Perez, due to a blatant shove on the back of his neck by Roldan, but Marv said in the post fight press conference that he was going to petition to have Perez's botched call officially overturned. I'm not aware of anybody besides Perez who actually counted this thing against Hagler, and some historical encapsulations of their match that I've read indeed do not even acknowledge it. (For his part, Cosell never counted Wepner's "knockdown" of Ali as legitimate either.) The two classic popular answers to this question though are always Billy Graham and Duilio Loi, who both got through over 100 career bouts without having this happen. (Galento also made it through his first 100 matches without getting decked, surpassing both LaMotta and Gavilan in this respect, but Louis finally landed him before Tony returned the favor. This actually sets Two-Ton apart from most steel chinned competitors, like Rossman and Galindez. Usually, such combatants have had it once their chins do let them down and they drop. Tony not only got up to put Louis down, but he registered the biggest win of his career in his very next match! Bear in mind that Galento was a heavyweight in an era of six ounce gloves.) LaPorte is commonly overlooked, although he does get full credit and recognition here. Ross did get caught cold out of the gate in the first fight of his trilogy with Garcia, and dropped twice late in the opening round, initially for a no-count, the second time just before the bell rang, when he was about to get up at the count of two. Barney won eight of the remaining rounds though, with one even. Pastrano got through 82 fights upright, before Torres finally sent him to a knee with a hook to the body. No head shot ever accomplished this, although Harold Johnson did make him do a wild late round dance in their title showdown.
Burt, they actually fought 3 times. This is a report on their 1st fight where the knockdowns took place. 1935-09-13 : This content is protected 142lbs beat This content is protected 148½lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10 Location: Dreamland Auditorium, San Francisco, California, USA Ross was knocked down twice in the 1st round, both on right hands. Ross was hurt near the end of the 1st round, and appeared to be out on his feet. While hurt, Ross slid down the ropes, till he was sitting on one of the rope strands. He arose without a count, and was immediately knocked down again by a right hand. The bell to end the 1st round clanged, as he was about to rise from the canvas. Ross would win all the remaining rounds, with the fourth being even. Source: Oakland Tribune Retrieved from " This content is protected "
That is truly outstanding, the great fighters he fought roll right off the tongue, and to think he was never down regardless of their punching power is amazing, the class of those guys is through the roof.
David Tua hasn't been dropped in the pro's. That's of course, unless you include the end of the 12th round in the Hasim Rahman re-match
Barney Ross and Jimmy McLarnin both suffered knockdowns in the 9th round of the 1st fight of their trilogy.
I haven't followed his career very closely but I'm not sure if Hector Camacho was ever down, atleast he was never stopped.
He wasn't dropped against Michael Grant, he was on his feet at the time of the TKO stoppage. I know he had his nose smashed and blew his nose, resulting in a massive mist of blood coming out.
Nah, was a split second after the bell I believe. Tua went tumbling backwards and onto his ass though, legit knockdown.
