Never understood the attention Whyte received

    It's certainly easy to say this after him suffering a devastating knockout loss. Still, Whyte was growing so tiresome with his "I'm the boogeyman of the division" schtick. I understand there were some political forces keeping him from a title shot, but, titles don't really mean much in heavyweight boxing these days. It seemed like Whyte had a platform because of his proximity to AJ, his country, his promoter, his trash talk, but not his skills.

    I saw nothing in the Parker or Rivas wins that showed him to be a legitimate threat to Fury/AJ. His skills are crude, he's learning on the job, yada yada. AJ has already beaten him. Fury/Whyte isn't as interesting as many other Fury fights. Wilder is the only really exciting fight for him to have made - both have now been stopped.

    Whyte is a top 10 heavyweight who looks like, fights kinda like, and is going the way of, Derek Chisora - gatekeeper. The amount of analysis and speculation was getting out of hand. Whyte is great for the showbiz of boxing, and a big ehhhh for the sweet science.

    Just deranged AJ fanboys trying to bolster Whyte to make AJ's win look better, and deranged Wilder and Fury haters (that seems to be a AJ fanboy comorbidity), deluding and trying to convince themselves Whyte was elite and on their level, and would do away with them first, therefore protecting the all holy and sacred Yeshua.

    Very few people ever said that Whyte was this elite ATG fighter. He's got a following because he has shown a willingness to take competitive fights when he really didn't have to and that he has been in some exciting fights. He's also got a bit of personality that makes him endearing to fans. Whyte vs Povetkin was probably the best boxing fight on paper during the lockdown, whilst other fighters aren't willing to reduce their pay to fight without that gate money. As infuriating as it is, realise that its the casuals that make this sport viable and Whyte has captured their attention with the aforementioned qualities.

    Yep pretty much this. He'd already lost to AJ, nobody other than some fan boys would of given him a chance vs Fury, he was never seen as a guy that would go onto dominate, he was simply an active heavy who took on competitive fights, usually gave fans entertaining fights, partly because he is vulnerable.

    Fact is most boxing fans are looking for entertainment and Whyte gave that to the fans, from his colourful persona to his competitive fights. If fans only cared about who was the best guys Wlad would of been a bigger star as he was clearly dominant and the best for a long time but fans also want to be entertained.

    Same as any average fighter with sky and eddies in house team telling everyone he's this and that, chuck in a bit of clever matchmaking and some more chat..
    voila.. We have hyped up fans and one hell of an over hyped fighter.

    Only people who don't know wtf their looking at said different.

    Well said!! Been past his prime for a while now, even with shedding a few pounds just don't have the engine he did a couple years back. Decent fighter but never been top shelf, respect to him tho never been a ducker and always given a 100%. Defence wasn't ever his strongest attribute but was his down fall this time. Was moving ok till he got caught tho to be fair

    Kinda like how Fury fans will try and convince themselves that Wilder was elite and not a fraudulent paper champ with one top 10 win in over 40 fights just to make his win look as good as possible.

    I rate Whyte as mid level European HW . Not bad but not world class .He wouldn't of lasted with mason or Bruno .Damanni would taken him apart .Sam would of dealt with him the same as he did with Williams. He is similar to Williams in level good but that's all.

    I didn't see the improvement since the Joshua fight. He's too out of shape, and has had enough time to get himself in good condition. The change of trainers should set off some alarm bells recently.

    He did exceed the expectations against Parker, but his main claim to fame was being the subject of a pissing contest between Hearn and Wilder.
