At 130-135 he did and he was KOing opponents...

At 147 it is mostly 1 shot at a time...

Why doesnt he throw more combos? Is it cause he doesnt wanna leave himself open?

Yeah, I think that's the reason. He already dominates most of his fights without combos, if he threw them he'd leave himself more exposed for no reason.

Yea he doesn't need to. There's a video interview of him saying this is why he doesn't throw combos ...if someone tells me how I embed videos, I'll post it.

He doesn't throw as many combos now because he's developed into a more safety-first fighter(in all regards including opponents) at the higher weight classes. He's always been a defensively responsible fighter, but at the lower weights he had more speed and power to work with, plus he also didn't have to worry as much about what was coming back at him.

When you land 40, 50% of your punches, you don't need to throw combos. But from time to time he still puts them together. He landed some nice combos during the Cotto fight. But as you can see, when he stands and fights, he gets hit more. His father has him backing focusing on defense.

The change in his style at the higher weights to more defensive gets a little overplayed at times.

Yeah, he's had his fights at 140 and below where he was more offensive minded and threw more combos (Ndou, Corley, Gatti, Augustus, Gerena, etc...), but he also had his fights where he was more defensive (Castillo 2, Vargas, Sosa). Even the Corrales fight, he was largely fighting on the backfoot and threw more single shots than combos. He was just so good, fast, and accurate that he dropped Chico 5 times. 3 of them came from single left hooks.

Mayweather has always fought differently depending on the opponent and situation. He's had fights at the higher weights where he is fighting a lot on the front foot behind a high guard.

He's basically just going with what he feels works best.
