i don´t care about the blablabla.. willians never did anything even close to the massacres that foreman did in a ring. not even close
I long ago came to the conclusion that the great punchers such as Louis and Foreman, do not hit any harder than the hearly weres such as Williams and Bruno. What they have over them is other factors.
in the case of louis yea, but foreman was a stronger, bigger guy han louis, he did hit harder than the brown bomber. simply louis was a better puncher, foreman did hit like a ******, he did not put even his body weight under his blows and he destroyed guys.. he was a monster, like frazier said, nobody did hit me harder than george, because nobody did hit harder than george foreman
I think that Foreman did have a lot more in his game than raw power. I think that he was an instinctive fighter, while Bruno and Cooney had to think about what they were doing. I think that was the key difference, rather than any qualatative difference in power.
The truth. We saw this weekend commentators tripping over themselves regarding Matthysse's power... when it is actually a lot of other factors in his game that allow him to deliver that power. Louis had cracking power that was delivered with great timing, speed and efficiency, all factors which amplified its effect.
Williams was leagues above Buddy in the speed department. You think they called him big CAT just because of his power? Williams would make buddy look very slow in there.
He would, though Buddy looked like quite an awkward customer on film. If he could tie up Cat he'd negate a lot of that speed.
True, since he gassed against Ali, some figured it was because he was easily out thought. Foreman is not just a mindless cyborg throwing punches. He has a lot of tricks up his sleeve. One thing I noticed is that when he gets a guy on the ropes, instead of standing right in front of them while he bombs away, he sidesteps and himself gets against the ropes while bombing a guy out.
I haven't seen much film of Buddy Baer and only some of Cleveland Williams. But I think this has the makings of a good fan fight. Both men liked to hit and both were big men. Defense and durability were not among their best traits. Williams might have been a bit fast and perhaps a tad more skilled, while Baer was the larger and possibly stronger of the two men. Probably an entertaining match for however long it lasted.
I wouldn't call Cleveland Williams a never was, he fought sonny liston 2x muhammed ali, ernie terrell 2x, Chuvalo. He came up short in most of those fights accept for one of the terrell fights but George Foreman said you only come across three genuine punchers in your career he said, Ronnie Lyle, Gerry Cooney and Cleveland Williams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmG_gR576EA
S,You summed up the 3 factors that made Joe Louis the greatest puncher ever, but may i add one other attribute, leverage...
