Martin Vargas had four shots; two against Canto, one against Gushiken, and one against Betulio Gonzalez. Tough draw, since he probably could have won a title in other eras.
Interesting that Laporte is mentioned becasue a fighter he defeated is probably high on the list: Ruben Castillo lost title attempts to Arguello, Sal Sanchez, Laporte, and Julio Cesar Chavez. Three of those guys are of course top 50 (that's being conservative) ATG's. Pretty stiff lineup. His best shot was against Laporte and I actually thought he would win that one. Laporte blew hot and cold and was 'on' for that fight.
Palomino had to fracture his jaw to stop him in 15, and Carlos had one punch power in his hook once he got warmed up. (To say nothing of the body shots Palomino dished out.)
